Estate Landscape Supervisor

An established landscape company is looking for an experienced landscape and garden maintenance supervisor to maintain and landscape an estate's garden in Somerset West. This will include managing the estate gardens, and any landscaping projects that may arise in the area.

Responsibilities include:
Garden Maintenance
- The estate’s garden is maintained to standard as directed by the Head of Landscaping and the Garden’s Trustees.
- Assist in compiling a Maintenance schedule for the various Sites
- Lawns are mowed as per the maintenance schedule.
- New areas are planted according to directions provided by the Head of Landscaping.
- Composting and fertilizer applied as per the Maintenance schedule
- Flower beds are kept free of weeds and covered by mulch.
- Flowers and shrubs are kept free of pests, disease and dying leaves or branches.
- Replanting or splitting of perennials ensured to cover areas as required.
- Shrubs & trees are pruned/cut back as required

Irrigation
- Garden is irrigated optimally according to plant and season requirements.
- Irrigation pump and system is managed and maintained, and kept in good working order.
- Fault-finding when irrigation systems do not perform optimally is conducted, and corrective action is ensured.

Staff Management
- Staff is managed to ensure time is kept, all workers are productive, and maintaining a high standard of work performance.
- Disciplinary matters are dealt with in accordance with legislation.
- Staff is supported and good teamwork ensured.

Landscaping projects
- Landscaping projects are supervised.
- Support is provided where and when required.
- Pro-active communication when things do not go according to plan or additional supplies are required on site.
- Equipment is well-maintained and kept in clean working order.
- Company vehicle is kept clean, tidy and safe at all times.
- Company vehicle is kept in good working order, filled with petrol, and services are maintained.
- Company vehicle is only used to travel from work to home and for landscaping or garden maintenance work.

MUST HAVES:

- Experience working in garden maintenance or as a landscape supervisor or similar 4+ years
- Drivers Licenses - Code EB and/or PDP
- Matric or Landscaping/ Horticulture qualification
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel & Word) - Intermediate

Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent Plant knowledge - able to use Latin and common names of popular landscape plants, trees, shrubs and able to identify between weeds & ornamental plants. Irrigation & Borehole/Booster pump systems.
- Garden Maintenance - Pruning. Chemical weed & insect control, fertilization
- Landscaping - be able to supervise new plantings & projects, and have an artistic feel to create a certain look and feel using landscaping elements.
- Fluent English & Afrikaans and excellent communication skills
- Able to build and maintain health working relationships.
- Healthy, fit & physically able to move around the site with ease and speed.
- Not allergic to grass cuttings & weed killer sprays

Pay: R15 000,00 per month
