Job Purpose
Define and deliver strategic direction for the function within the Africa Zone by developing and implementing Logistics solutions in accordance with the company Zone Logistics VPO/DPO standards & inventory/safety policies for T1/T2 Logistics, the functional areas of various stakeholders. Owner of the Logistics section of the Capacity models for 28 sites across the AFRICA Zone.
Key role & Responsibilities
- Provide high level Logsitics scopes and budget in consultation with the Global, Zone and regional teams for annual planning purposes.
- Consider construction costs, government regulations, potential environment hazards and other factors in the planning and risk analysis
- Reviews existing Logistics Installations and make recommendations to simplify and modernise as required so that plant safety, build integrity and maintenance practices are optimised/improved to support business continuity.
- Lead the Civil Design Management and enable this by planning and organising the engineering and design work for the project. Oversee, direct and coordinate work.
- Understand and implement all design, technical specifications and engineering requirements for projects from concept to detailed design (FEL 0 to FEL3) level of detail so that RFQs can be prepared and detailed design supported.
- Ensure that FEL3 designs are implemented in the project Build Phase and any significant changes that may affect quality, cost, time or outputs are documented and approved via the project management system with decision support notes.
- Review and approve civil build specifications that form part of Civil Contractor supply and incorporate green engineering and construction techniques when economically feasible.
- Participate as required in the technical supplier adjudications to assist with appropriate appointments that meet the Companies operational performance, and safety KPIs
- After supplier appointments have been made, provide support to the Implementation team to ensure that the detailed integration work can be carried out between the various contractors
- Enable a value engineering mind-set to the design review process
- Ensure company representation on all civil related works
- Capacity Model Owner for the Zone
- Regular update of project development tracker
- Project status reports as per routine
**Requirements**:
Profile
- A bachelors degree in industrial/civil engineering or equivalent with 8-10 years work experience
- At least 5 years FMCG or beverage experience would be an advantage
- Design experience with regard to large Logistics builds in excess of $10m
- Detailed understanding of Logistics legal regulations, building permit approval requirements, building and safety codes and other regulations pertaining to industrial buildings and structures
- Working knowledge of green engineering and construction techniques
- Solid understanding of project management tools and techniques such as PMBOK.
- Good understanding of best-in-class Logistics solutions to enable accurate technical reviews and adjudication of contractors bids.
Key Attributes and Competencies
- Good communicator with the development team to ensure that design requirements are defined timeously by other disciplines to ensure designs are completed on time.
- Process orientated and assertive to ensure that projects are executed in accordance with well proven and established practices and safety requirements
- Proven experience in solving Logistics project related problems with pragmatic solutions.
- Excellent organisational skills that enable systematic prioritisation to logically complete tasks and deliver results.
- General commercial and financial understanding.
- Leadership skills, interpersonal skills and strong team player
- Ability to manage people and conflicts
- Computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, etc.)
- Registration with a professional body would be an advantage
- Own reliable transport and valid drivers license for occasional travel to which will be paid for by the company
Package & Remuneration
R850,000 p/a - negotiable depending on qualifications and experience
