Duties/Pligte
- Patient recruitment traveling between Tygerberg Campus and selected clinics (including clinics where our team is based to manage closely related projects) to
consent patients who meet study criteria. For the diagnostics study, their day-to-day base will be one of the aforementioned clinics;
- Liaising with personnel of diverse expertise. Maintaining good relations with research, clinic and field staff to ensure uninterrupted sample flow from the field to the
laboratory;
- Study coordination. Assisting with coordinating day-to-day field activities with key personnel (i.e., drivers, radiology department, clinicians);
- Data capturing. Capturing participant data on REDCap software (pre-installed on computers and tablets) with high attention to detail;
- Maintain frequent communication. Being easily accessible via phone and providing frequent updates (via WhatsApp) to the study team. This is important for patient
scheduling, etc.;
- Clinical specimen collection and testing. Performing phlebotomy and other study-related procedures (e.g., swab collection, sputum induction). Bronchoscopy
theater experience is advantageous, but not a requirement;
- Attending regular project meetings;
- Ensuring patient retention. All studies require follow-up and patients to undergo repeat procedures (which are safe). It is essential for nurses to be persuasive and
good communicators to address any concerns patients may have about follow-ups.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse;
- A valid driver's license and own transport;
- At least two years' relevant experience;
- Training and experience in Good Clinical Practice (GCP);
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams);
- The ability to solve problems independently and effectively;
- A goal-oriented disposition;
- Sound interpersonal skills;
- Good written and verbal communication skills;
- Fluency in English and isiXhosa and/or Afrikaans;
- The ability to maintain patient confidentiality;
- Experience with working in a clinical research environment (ideally in TB, however, this is not mandatory).
