**Job Purpose**:
To manage all aspects of Transport including Owner driver program, primary transport contractors and last-mile service delivery and costs, including but not limited to supplier relationships, negotiations, operational requirements, creating efficiencies through routing and scheduling and administration functions in line with service requirements, operational budgets and delivering on the budgeted profit number.
**Key Performance Areas**:
- Overall planning, coordinating, and monitoring logistics operations such as warehousing, inventory, transportation, and supply chain processes.
- To monitor and coordinate routing and scheduling practices across all Wholesale and Distribution dispatch functions.
- To work with the dispatch managers / supervisors at each facility to ensure routing and scheduling plans are met. Play a coordinating role in aligning with warehouse management in order to meet route cut off times in order to ensure customer service commitments are met.
- To ensure standard order dispatching practices are standardized across all distribution centres and that SOP’s are monitored and measured.
- To ensure that POD‘s are returned as stipulated by SLA, and updated online by the POD manages and teams at each DC. That tracking processes are in place to measure and manage performance on a weekly basis and reported for weekly scorecard meetings.
- Setup tracking and monitoring across all sites to manage the reverse logistics process by ensuring that pick-ups are done as per SLA’s via courier, owner driver and owned vehicles.
- To manage and oversee the operation of the owner driver personnel and check that they meet required operational standards in line with applicable SOP.
- To setup quarterly management meeting with Owner drivers to address performance and financial status reviews in line with the financial service provider.
- To ensure that customer queries are processed / resolved and that credits are passed as applicable. Tracking in place and reporting on a weekly basis at scorecard meetings.
- To develop customer relationships in order to maximize the customer experience.
- Manage fuel usage and cost across all facilities and to ensure that processes are in place to manage stock and to curtail financial losses related to fuel.
- To work on initiative to reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
- Ensure that distribution budgets are met and reviewed monthly.
- To setup monitoring and management of temperature-controlled deliveries. Deploy initiatives to ensure temperature-controlled vehicles are monitored in line with UPD SOP’s
- To manage the HR management component of the department, including but not limited to performance management, talent identification and management, succession planning, training and development, disciplinary action and employee wellness.
- To manage courier relationships with regard to holding couriers to contractual SLAs and agreements.
- To ensure resources are correctly aligned and utilised to capacity across the DC dispatch function for all sites.
- To adhere to strict safety protocols.
**Skills**:
- Proficiency in in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- Solid knowledge of warehouse and distribution operational procedures.
- Knowledge of industrial relation management
- Good knowledge of distribution routing practices
- Strong negotiation skills
**Knowledge**:
- Matric with a degree in warehousing / transport / distribution / supply chain
- Minimum 5-8 years in an outbound, operational related environment
- At least 5 years’ experience in a leadership role
- Distribution management experience, preferably in a temperature-controlled environment.
**Personal Competencies**:
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work well in a team and to create an effective team.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to work toward tight deadlines.
- Ability to work long hours when required.
- Ability to travel within SA
**Minimum requirements**:
**Education**:
- Relevant Degree / Diploma in Supply Chain / Warehousing or similar
**Job Related Experience**:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in logistics, outbound, operational related environment of which 5-8 years should be in management.
- Understanding of a Pharmaceutical / temperature-controlled Distribution experience.
