**ABOUT WFP**:
The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to end global hunger. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that **n**o** child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
In emergencies, WFP gets food to where it is needed, saving the lives of victims of war, civil conflict and natural disasters. After an emergency, WFP uses food to help communities rebuild their shattered lives. Present in nearly 80 countries, the organization has the global footprint, deep field presence and local knowledge and relationships necessary to provide access to nutritious food and contribute to the lasting solutions, especially in many of the world’s most remote and fragile areas. We manage an operating budget of approximately $5.9 billion each year, distributing 12.6 billion rations to those most in need. We reach an average of 80 million people with food assistance in around 80 countries each year. **The World Food Programme office in Johannesburg is a Regional Office **coordinating and supporting** the delivery of humanitarian assistance to 11 Southern Africa countries including, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, Malawi, Madagascar, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo Brazzaville.**
**ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT**:
The WFP Southern Africa Region - RBJ has developed a Regional Knowledge Management (KM) Action Plan (2020-2030). This action plan aims to outline the actions WFP across the Southern Africa region will take to build on the achievements made since 2016 in managing and sharing knowledge. It outlines how RBJ will operationalise the WFP 2017 Corporate Knowledge Mana
gement Strategy, whose vision is “create, access, retain, share and use knowledge internally and externally to achieve SDG 2 and SDG 17”.
Further, according to the recent insight reflected in the Evidence Generation Block Summary Report, knowledge management is underutilized, resulting in the fragmentation of data and information. This leads to loss of valuable knowledge, institutional memory and duplication of efforts.
Also, the collation of data and knowledge management aligns with the UN reform pillar one (1) on Opportunity-Based Coalitions (OIBCs) on data. The Knowledge Management unit contributes to the UN Reform information portal and improve access to data. Within this context, WFP-RBJ intends to position Knowledge Management as a strategic resource that will work closely with various RB units to promote continuous organizational learning, improve evidence building, and ensure that business processes are implemented in an efficient and effective manner.
Therefore, the RBJ Knowledge Management Unit has been incorporated into the Evidence Generation Block (EGB) to strengthen WFP in supporting national governments in the region, WFP country offices, and regional bodies. The unit is also assigned to work with the Centre of Excellence in Brazil and the Centre of Excellence Against Hunger and Malnutrition (CERFAM) based in Côte d'Ivoire in facilitating knowledge exchange and the generation of sound knowledge products and evidence-based material.
The role of a Knowledge Management and Publications Officer is to position Knowledge Management as a WFP strategic pillar included in programme design, improvement of business processes and ensuring that WFP continues to be a learning organization that shares knowledge to break silos across functional units. Additionally, KM should help the RB to collect, compile, analyse information and data to ensure that RBJ strengthens the support given to the governments in the region.
**JOB PURPOSE**:
This assignment aims to lead the implementation of the RBJ Knowledge Management Action Plan (2020 - 2030) to ensure the achievement of the below objectives:
1) Lead the development, review, and preparation of critical high-level presentations/dialogues, reports and briefs to support the Regional Director’s office.
2) Ensures knowledge management is incorporated in WFP - Southern Africa Region as a strategic resource that enhances business processes improves collaboration, and integrates into the design, implementation, and evaluation of programmes.
3) Lead overall KM interventions, identify and eliminate knowledge barriers/gaps, and establish knowledge methods to ensure that the WFP - Southern Africa region becomes a learning organization where tacit knowledge is retained.
4) Strengthen external knowledge partnerships and develop knowledge solutions/strategies to position WFP - RBJ as a partner of choice to governments, donors and continental and regional bodies such as the African Union (AU), AUDA-NEPAD, SADC and the Centre of Excellence in Brazil.
5) Design and implement a focused (and needs-based) knowledge management and learning program for all staff and ensure that systematic kno
