**Job Title: Gardener/Maintenance Worker**

**Position Type**: CONTRACT 1 YEAR

**About Iris House Children's Hospice**:
**Responsibilities**:

- **Gardening**:

- Maintain and cultivate the hospice's outdoor spaces, including flower beds, vegetable garden, lawns, and green areas.
- Plant, prune, and trim trees, vegetables, shrubs, and flowers as needed.
- Implement and maintain irrigation systems for efficient watering.
- **Grounds Maintenance**:

- Conduct routine inspections of the hospice and Collar Club grounds, identifying and addressing any safety hazards or issues promptly.
- Perform general landscaping tasks, such as debris removal, edging, and weeding.
- Ensure a safe and aesthetically pleasing outdoor environment for children, families, and staff.
- **Equipment Operation**:

- Operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or the need for repairs to the appropriate personnel.
- **Maintenance Support**:

- Assist in basic maintenance tasks, including painting, minor repairs, and general upkeep of hospice and Collar Club facilities.
- Collaborate with the Hospice and Collar Club team to address any facility-related issues promptly.
- **Compliance and Safety**:

- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while performing gardening and maintenance duties.
- **Animal Care**

Daily feeding and care of Iris House animals, including our two therapy horses, chickens, laying chickens, bunnies and sheep. (Must be comfortable walking horses to their grazing area at The Collar Club )
- Keep accurate records of gardening activities and material usage.

**Qualifications**:

- Previous experience in gardening and grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of plant care, landscaping techniques, and irrigation systems.
- Ability to operate and maintain gardening equipment.
- Basic handyman skills for minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks that involve lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

**Hours**

**61 hours in total**

**Mon - Friday hours per week 8 - 5pm**

**2 weekends per month 8 - 4pm**

**Salary**: From R5 500,00 per month
