Job Title - Kovsie Football Men’s Head Coach (post level 9) (contract appointment: 3 years) (Job ID: 6143) - Organizational Unit - University of the Free State -> Student Affairs -> KovsieSport - Contract Type - Contract - Occupational Level - Junior Management - Location - Bloemfontein Campus - Bloemfontein, FS ZA (Primary) - Closing Date - 23/5/2025 - Description **Duties and responsibilities**: - Plan, organise, lead and direct the KovsieFootball Men's program. - Coach and attend all/most team matches (Preseason, Regular Season, Playoffs, USSA and Varsity Football, exhibition matches, etc). - Organise and conduct practice sessions to teach sport fundamentals and skills, game strategies, performance principles and the proper use of sports and training equipment to enhance the UFS Football Coaching philosophy. - Provide instruction in physical conditioning and technical periodisation that will enable student athletes to achieve maximum performance. - Serve as an educational practitioner promoting psychological, social mental and the soft skills needed for student athletes to succeed academically and on the field. - Create and foster purposeful professional relationships with each student athlete to maximise their contributions to the team as players and holistic development. - Implement and conduct a comprehensive plan on game days. - Provide weekly/monthly progress reports. - Oversee scouting of opponents (watching games, creating applicable reports and presenting data and details) - Develop and administer a complete recruiting plan while guiding and training all staff in the scouting methodology the UFS will use to inform acquisition opportunities, team roster management and development opportunities. - Supervise assistant coaches, team managers and student volunteers. - Responsible for interviewing, training, assigning and directing work, as well as appraising performance of athletes and staff, addressing complaints and resolving problems. - Represent the organisation at various networking events and off-site community events. - Demonstrate and model sportsmanship and ethical conduct consistent with the mission of UFS, KovsieSport and KovsieFootball. **Inherent requirements**: - Grade 12 on NQF level 5. - Football Coaching Qualification CAF B licence (attach a copy). - Minimum of five (5) years’ Head Coaching experience coaching men's football. - Three (3) years’ playing experience (University/ Professional/National team). - Valid Driver's License (attach a copy). - Safeguarding Certificate (attach a copy). **Recommendations**: - A qualification on NQF level 7. - Additional Coaching Positions occupied within Football Federations. - Experience working within the Higher Education environment. - Knowledge of university systems, policies and procedures. - Bilingual. - Good communication skills, verbal and written. - Ability to deliver knowledge to and instruct student athletes in an effective manner. - Effective conflict resolution skills. - Competencies **Required competencies**: - **Results orientated**: - The ability to set high standards, establish tough goals, and to work to achieve success. - The ability to be reliable, responsible, dependable and to fulfil obligations. **- Strategic thinking**: - The ability to plan work and to follow plans. - The ability to carefully analyse information and use logic to address issues and problems at work. **- Business acumen**: - The ability to adhere to rules and strictly follow work regulations. - Proficient in using MS Office. - Knowledge of principles, practices/trends and techniques in coaching - Must have a strong interest in sport and an awareness of the issues affecting the sports sector - The ability to build and maintain effective relationships and to communicate well with a diverse population - Ability to work well in a student-focused environment - Ability to project a positive image of sport to all clients, shareholders and potential partners **- Leading**: - The ability to be cooperative with others, display good-natured attitude, and encourage people to work together. **- Building coalitions**: - The ability to negotiate, sell, influence and to persuade others. - The ability to interact with others and establish personal connections with people. - A detailed curriculum vitae and cover letter. - Copies of qualifications or proof of qualifications obtained (please provide the SAQA accreditation in the case of foreign qualifications). - A copy of your identity document (SA ID or passport for foreign nationals). - Proof of registration with a Professional Body (if required). - A copy of your driver’s license (if required). - Confirmation of employment from current employer / last employer if unemployed (only applicable to external applicants). **Assumption of duties**: As soon as possible. **Closing date**: 23 May 2025. **Salary**: The salary is available on request. **Fringe benefits**: (Subject to specific conditions): pension scheme,
