Lab Assistant

**POSITION AVAILABLE - LAB ASSISTANT (12 months contract)**

**Principal Duties and Responsibilities**:

1. Incoming Quality Control:

- Collect incoming raw materials, including but not exclusive to resin and masterbatch for standard tests to be performed by the technical laboratory staff members.
- Conduct visual inspections of incoming raw material packaging and report any defects identified.

2. In-process Quality Control
- Conduct visual inspections of quarantined and in-process material. Report defects to laboratory technicians, laboratory manager and production supervisor.
- Conduct measurement tests such as thickness and asperity height during production.
- Communicate any defects, out-of-spec and the required adjustments to the laboratory technicians, laboratory manager and production team.
- Conduct daily factory inspections as per the quality in-line inspection form.

3. Out-going Quality Control
- Visually inspect samples delivered to the laboratory for testing.
- Ensure that the correct sample is submitted to the laboratory for testing prior to sample preparation.
- Prepare samples according to ASTM test methods and GRI test frequencies for technical staff to test.
- Report any defects identified during the sample preparation process.
- Prepare wedge weld samples and evaluate the quality of the seam.
- Extrusion of welding rod samples.
- Prepare and dispatch samples to customers according to requests received
- Assist in sampling for third-party testing.
- Store retention samples in the retention storage bins and report samples in the retention databases.

4. Other
- Inspect and report gas levels daily and report when a change in gas cylinder is required.
- Liaise with Logistics to move sample storage bins to final holding area when full.
- Maintain, fill and clean ESCR baths.
- Clean and maintain sample preparation area.
- Clean and maintain lab storage area in production hall

**Qualifications & Skills**:

- Matric certificate
- Laboratory experience will be an advantage but not a requirement

**Remuneration Offered**:

- Salary will be discussed at interview.
- 12 months fixed term contract.
