Department Manager (CNC Machining) - Helderberg Area.

A renowned high-tech design and aviation manufacturing company is looking for a “Production Planner’’ to join their team on a full-time permanent basis in the Helderberg Area.

**Position Overview**:
We are looking for an Operations leader who drives success and directs high-producing teams while developing employee loyalty.

Must be experienced in using Lean manufacturing to reduce costs and streamline production processes, experienced in managing people in a union setting, and planning production schedules over multiple shifts.

**Requirements**:
A Production / Operations Management degree / diploma with a minimum 10 years of experience working in CNC Machining operations.

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a managerial role.

Must have experience setting up and running CNC Milling centres.

A strong background in CNC Programming and troubleshooting for 3-5 axis CNC and Robot Machining Centres.

Requires knowledge on fixturing concepts for CNC milling & conventional machining processes.

Knowledge of selecting the right tools for the machining operations based on the component material, hardness & drawing tolerances.

Working understanding of GD&T concept and CAD/CAM software.

Working knowledge in manual CNC programming and 2D and 3D program generation.

Very strong people management skills, and the ability to communicate across departmental boundaries.
- Strong Leadership abilities; Ability to guide a team to the common goal; Proactive; Goal orientated.
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills.
- Requires knowledge in cost estimation for the manufacturing process. (Machine hour rate, part process cost etc.).
- SAP knowledge or similar ERP system

**Key responsibilities**:
Manages staff selection, performance, development and training processes to ensure team competencies and capabilities to achieve business goals and expectations.

Responsible for development, justification, and implementation of continuous process improvement initiatives.

Responsible for department planning, coordination of scheduling, ensuring materials are available, and machines are well maintained with very little down time.

Implements and develops manufacturing processes, departmental SOP’s while adhering to all company manufacturing standards/methods and policies, including safety related initiatives.

Develop and implement KPI’s/ metrics to measure and track performance.

Optimizes the machining processes in terms of consistent quality and productivity.

Central resource for technical machining expertise to Operations, Engineering, Tooling and Maintenance.

Creates and develops CNC, select tooling, tool list and set-up sheets.

Responsible for development and implementation of appropriate cost control and cost reduction initiatives within responsible functions.

Collaboratively works with Engineers to identify machining approach, set tolerances and identify design shortcomings.

Oversees planning for new product development process, selection of machines, tools, fixtures and inspection methods.

Practices and maintains 5S standards in the workplace.

Perform within the physical and environmental demands of the job.
