Cloudline is an African-founded start-up that designs and manufactures autonomous, solar-powered airships that can carry larger payloads at a fraction of the cost of all drone technology currently available worldwide
To date, Cloudline has raised over $4 million to develop its technology, grow local talent and ramp up production for its first customers in Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa. Using a model to train and recruit local talent in each customer country, Cloudline is making aerospace careers a viable option for all young talented youth in Africa while opening the world to vibrant yet underserved African communities.
Cloudline is searching for a Production Manager to join its Engineering Team in Stellenbosch, Cape Winelands. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the workshop, manufacturing various components ranging from electronics to composites, training workers in the responsible use of machinery, improving designs with manufacturing in mind, standardizing system testing, standardizing stock management, ensuring health and safety codes are followed, identifying problems in the production line, troubleshooting equipment, and completing various administrative tasks.
The incumbent will report to the Lead Engineer and will have the below key duties:
**Responsibilities**:
- Analyzing all facets of production and making recommendations for improvement
- Manage the production team including translating the production schedule into tasks for the team to execute on, training of team members, ensure that team health is positive and facilitate a growth path for team members
- Drawing up production schedules
- De-risking the supply chain of components and materials
- Liaising with other engineers to develop plans that improve production, costs, and labor required
- Standardize a testing procedure for system and cycle testing of components before they are approved for flight
- Maintain a bill-of-materials system in order to understand and improve the weight and cost impacts of components
- Obtaining any materials and equipment required
- Maintaining the tools and equipment to ensure efficient manufacturing
- Implement a stock management system
- Implement a system tracking system that will provide traceability of the manufacturing & maintenance of the flight systems
**Requirements**:
- Proven work experience as a Production / Manufacturing Manager or similar role
- 3-4 years experience in electronic and mechanical system production
- Ideally have worked in the UAV industry before
- Understanding of quality standards and health & safety regulations
- Excellent organisational and leaderships skills
- Strong decision-making skills and a results-driven approach
- High-level of computer skills as you will be implementing systems such as stock management & system tracking
