The primary objective of the **Small Business Manager **at the V&A Waterfront is to conceptualize and implement the small business strategy. The role requires the Small Business Manager to balance and optimise impact and profitability along with identifying trends and innovation. The incumbent must drive the growth, success, and sustainability of small businesses by overseeing property management, providing comprehensive small business support, managing the Small Business team, ensuring efficient budget utilization, and by overseeing and optimizing the use of infrastructure to create a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Overall, the Small Business Manager is entrusted with the responsibility of designing and nurturing a vibrant and resilient small business ecosystem within the V&A Waterfront. By effectively managing properties, offering comprehensive support, leading a dedicated team, optimizing resources, and fostering collaboration, the role contributes to the sustainable growth and long-term success of entrepreneurs and their enterprises.
**Job Objectives**:
**Strategy and Ecosystem Development**
- Conceptualize and refine the Small Business strategy in collaboration with the Retail Executive and team
- Identify opportunities to link and develop a flourishing small business ecosystem
- Collaborate with internal BU's and various other ecosystems to ensure effective delivery of overall objectives
- Drive market access and support small business growth plans and resilience across the portfolio
- Identify opportunities and cultivate partnerships with various entities to advance impact ambitions
- Actively identify and foster a collaborative environment by cultivating relationships with local, regional, and national stakeholders, including government bodies, civil society organizations and academia.Contribute to the development of an integrated entrepreneurial ecosystem that supports innovation, networking, and knowledge sharing
- Develop and present thought leadership on the V&A Waterfront impact to external stakeholders and industry experts
- Utilize data driven information to continuously adapt and refine strategies and offering
**Property and Asset Management**
- Oversee property management function within the small business space including:
- Tenant management,
- Leasing & renewals
- Debt management,
- General asset management
- Fits outs
- Billing
- Ensure a welcoming, organized, and conducive environment for small business owners and their customers
- Implement effective space allocation strategies to maximize business visibility and foot traffic
**Small Business Support**
- Provide oversight for the development and execution of comprehensive small business support programs, including robust incubator initiatives and impactful mentorship programs etc.
- Collaborate with external partners, industry experts, and relevant stakeholders to offer resources, guidance, and training that empower entrepreneurs to build and scale their ventures
- Implement innovative solutions, amenities, and facilities that enhance the overall small business experience (b2b) and drive business growth (b2c)
**People Management**
- Lead the Small Business team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and dedication
- Provide clear direction, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to team members, empowering them to effectively support small businesses and achieve collective goals
- Motivate and engage team members
- Translate and communicate the V&A Business purpose to ensure buy-in from the team
- Develop staff capabilities and skills
- Performance management /coaching
- Interview and appoint new team members (where appropriate)
- Manage service providers and contractors
**Financial Management**
- Plan and implement the annual Small Business budget plan aligned to business strategy with the Retail Executive
- Manage and ensure efficient use of budget throughout the year
- Support with presenting, selling, and soliciting sign-off of the budget with the relevant stakeholder (e.g. Exco)
- Maximise impact of budget use to deliver on ROI
- Identify opportunities to optimize resource utilization, while maintaining a high level of service and support for small
- business owners
- Provide oversight of monthly debt management and credit control
- Ensure continuous reporting of budget lines to key stakeholders
**Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting**
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of small business initiatives and partner
- Regularly assess and report on the effectiveness of property management, support programs, and team performance, providing data-driven insights for strategic decision-making
- Ensure completeness of evidence for reporting requirements
- Support with the compilation of the BBBEE scorecard requirements
