Duties/PligteProviding research assistance for projects in South Africa;-
- Coordinating numerous outreach and training projects that will occur in the Western and Northern Cape Provinces of South Africa;Maintaining and monitoring project documentation, contracts and collaborators;-
- Coordinating and participating in project meetings;-
- Providing support to various stakeholders in the project;-
- Assisting with participant recruitment, sample collection, and DNA extraction;-
- Maintaining REDCap databases related to the sample collections;-
- Writing and updating standard operating procedures;-
- Managing orders for equipment and reagents;-
- Responsible for ensuring that equipment is safe, maintained and in working order;-
- Contributing to the overall activities of the research team and the Division as required.Job Requirements/Pos VereistesMSc in human genetics, infectious diseases, or a related field;-
- Good Clinical Practice training;-
- Excellent written, communication and organisational skills;Fluent in English and Afrikaans (the field work will take place in an area where Afrikaans is the predominant language);-
- Willingness to travel within South Africa at least four times a year for at least two weeks at a time;Experience in recruiting research participants, collecting saliva samples and performing DNA extractions in a laboratory;-
- A valid driver's license.Recommendation/Aanbeveling- Evidence of being involved in an outreach/training project;-
- Evidence of previous field work experience;-
- Previous experience in project coordination will be advantageous.
