Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
N6 in Mechanical Engineering / National Diploma (Mechanical Engineering)

Minimum Experience:
10 years’ experience as a draughtsperson/designer in a manufacturing, mechanical, mining, energy or mineral process equipment environment with extensive experience in structural and plant design/modelling/draughting.

5 years’ experience in the mining industry.

Extensive experience in the use of 3D structural modelling/draughting software (Tekla Structures, Advance Steel etc).

Experienced in the use of other 3D mechanical draughting software (Inventor, Solid Works, Siemens NX, etc)

Experienced in the use of 2D CAD software (AutoCad etc).

Experienced with the use of a PLM software (Siemens Teamcenter, Autodesk Vault, etc.) (Desired)

Key Tasks:
Design/modelling/draughting of comminution related engineered to order solutions according to specific customer requirements.

Support sales engineers with pre-bid engineering modelling/draughting.

Develop 3D component models, 2D drawings and 3D product assemblies using Tekla Structures in accordance with the Weir Minerals Division Draughting Manual with limited or no supervision.

Work under the mentorship of a Senior Engineer (Team leader comminution design team) and P.R. Structural Engineer.

Understand and interpret technical drawings & datasheets.

Occasional practitioner of 2D AutoCAD.

Responsibly manage all project data within the PLM system (Teamcenter).

Deliver drawings on time as per the project schedule deadlines.

Check 2D manufacturing and contract drawings in accordance with drawing approval process PF-ED-06.

Use 3D scanner for on-site scanning & process scan data using scanning software (ReCap etc).

Travel to site, in Africa and the Middle East, to take site measurements & perform 3D scanning for retro-fit opportunities (valid passport required).

Assist with the printing and issuing of drawings and electronic CAD data in accordance with drawing control process PF-ED-03.

Protect IP in accordance with Weir Minerals Division requirements.

Provide technical support to internal & external suppliers and fabricators.

Perform design work in accordance with the relevant national and international design standards where required (SANS 10160 & 10162 etc).

Advise customers on best design solutions for their problems, with the support of Weir process and sales engineers.

Investigate and problem solve NCR’s, warranty claims and on-site queries.

Support other functions with respect to project handovers, site visits, quality concerns, concessions etc.

Work within engineering team to ensure designs adhere to Weir Product Stewardship requirements.

Initiate and lead small value add projects.

Act as a mentor for junior draughtspersons and Trainee Engineers in the Engineering office.

Communicate directly with internal customers in terms of EDR progress feedback, achievement of deadlines and technical drawing/design queries.

Communicate directly with external customers and third party suppliers to resolve technical queries if and when required.

Continuously strive to improve and develop product offering.

All health and safety aspects to be considered throughout product life cycle.

Have a strong safety orientated approach to work and drive safety in the team & business.

Minimum Skills/Abilities

Must be able to perform under pressure and work independently.

Attention to detail with a disciplined approach to managing projects

Must be able to manage time and prioritize work according to work load, and deliver on deadlines.

Confident decision-making ability.

Ability to work with various CAD software, MS office and office 365.

Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings & other engineering information.

Ability to work in a cross functional team, build and maintain strong working relationships.
