Underwriting Specialist: Policy Wording

What will you do?

To ensure that all content produced by SBS Underwriting is professional, well positioned, well written and meets the objectives of our stakeholders. What will make you successful in this role?

PolicyCenter and Mainframe policy wordings/ Clauses/ Additional Wording Components:
Receive changes from Relevant Underwriting Manager or Senior Underwriter in English with clear indications of specifically where the changes are to be implemented - being it on the policy wording(s) itself, or the Clause or Additional Wording Component wordings.
Translate these changes, as applicable, into Afrikaans, for implementation on the corresponding Afrikaans policy wordings/ Clauses/ Additional Wording Components.
If the changes are for PolicyCenter - then instructions in English and Afrikaans should be sent to the Team leaders working in Guidewire. Instructions will have to be sent on the South African as well as the Namibian policy wordings and Additional Wording Components, as applicable.
If the changes are for Mainframe - then instructions in English and Afrikaans should be sent to the DesignHub who is responsible for updating the Mainframe policy wordings.
If the changes are applicable to the Guidewire as well as the Mainframe policy wordings/ Clauses/ Additional Wording Components, then instructions will be sent to both the responsible parties as mentioned above.
Receive the revised policy wordings / Clauses / Additional Wording Components back from the testing teams in Guidewire (English and Afrikaans, for South Africa and/ or Namibia) and/ or the DesignHub for Mainframe (English and Afrikaans) and check that everything has been implemented as necessary. If any corrections need to be made, the processes above will be repeated until the correct changes are displayed.
The updated Mainframe policy wordings in English and Afrikaans then needs to be uploaded unto the Intranet (SharePoint) for internal users and on the Broker Portal for external users.
Extracts of the updated PolicyCenter policy wordings in English and Afrikaans (South Africa and/ or Namibia) are requested from the Guidewire Team Leader in order to be uploaded unto the Intranet (SharePoint) for internal users and on the Broker Portal for external users.

**Broker Bespoke policy wordings**:
Receive the updated Commercial Broker Bespoke policy wordings from the relevant Underwriting Manager or Senior Underwriter and upload/change the policy wordings on the Intranet (SharePoint) for the specific broker, and for internal use by the applicable staff.
Update the current year’s English versions of the Broker Guidelines for South Africa and Namibia (x3) with all new underwriting changes as communicated via Internal & Broker Circulars.
Sent these updated English versions of the Broker Guidelines for South Africa and Namibia to the relevant Underwriting Managers/ Senior Underwriters for Property, Agri, Casualty and Motor to include any further underwriting changes for the new year.
Once received back, the English changes are translated into Afrikaans for implementation on the 2x Afrikaans Broker Guidelines.
All 5 Broker Guidelines are then sent to the DesignHub to be formatted into the correct Corporate Identity versions for external distribution to brokers.
Once the formatted versions are received back from the DesignHub and signed off by the relevant Underwriting Managers/ Senior Underwriters, it is distributed to the relevant National Account Managers for onward distribution to their brokers.
As outsourced brokers are migrated from Mainframe onto PolicyCenter, specific new Broker Guidelines are required as instructed by the National Account Managers. Qualifications and Experience

Relevant Bachelor’s degree in Communication and/or Languages and relevant insurance related diploma: AIISA or FIISA or similar
Proven track record of at least 15 years’ experience within a Commercial Underwriting environment
Commercial Technical Underwriting expertise
Thorough knowledge of Santam’s Commercial products
Advance Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint) Skills

Commercial Underwriting skill
Advanced Excel
All policy administration and quoting systems of Santam Commercial
Management experience in Commercial Underwriting
Excellent English and Afrikaans communication skills
Ability to work under pressure with appropriate prioritisation skills
