**Entity and activity description**

Applies mechanical theory and related knowledge to test and modify developmental or operational mechanical machinery. Assembles and tests experimental mechanical devices, pumps and other mechanical equipment and components according to engineering data and knowledge of mechanical principles
**Missions and Responsibilities**
- Diagnoses cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and perform preventative and corrective maintenance
- Develops layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system or equipment modifications or expansion, and directs personnel performing routine installation and maintenance duties
- Plans, directs, and records periodic mechanical testing, and recommends or initiates modification or replacement of equipment which fails to meet acceptable operating standards
- Inspect mechanical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Ensure mechanical equipment reliability through scheduled inspections and pro-active actions.
- Ensure all Safety and mechanical inspections are completed and up to date.
- Ensure quality procedures are followed and documentation completed.
- Ensure IMS procedures are implemented and maintained as per procedure.
- Ensure mechanical plant defects are completed and signed of in the agreed time.
- Ensure mechanical equipment reliability through scheduled inspections and pro-active actions.
- Responsible for the spare parts strategy
- Ensure plant availability of 98.6% and higher for Sasol Synfuels as per contractual agreement.
- Adhere to food safety prerequisite programmes (PRPs), SOP's and the food safety management system when maintaining and/or calibrating equipment and instruments.

**Competencies and Profile**
- Qualified Mechanical Trade
- Minimum N5 Mechanical qualification
- Minimum 5 years hands-on industrial experience.
- Good knowledge of cryogenic pumps, pumps in general, gearboxes, cryogenic valves, compressors etc
- Experience in Computerized Maintenance Management System will be a strong advantage.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of the OHS regulations
- Strong instrumentation and electrical background will be an added advantage.
- Experienced in Air Separation Unit will be an added advantage.
