Maintenance Assistant

**Job Purpose**:
To provide technical and general maintenance support across Air Chefs facilities and fleet by assisting qualified artisans (including mechanics, plumbers, electricians, refrigeration technicians, and general builders) in performing routine maintenance, repairs, and installations. The role ensures that all facilities, equipment, and infrastructure are maintained in safe, clean, and operational condition to support uninterrupted business operations.

**Principal Accountabilities**:

- Assist artisans with the maintenance, repair, and installation of equipment and facility components.
- Support plumbing work, including leak repairs, pipe fitting, and fixture replacement.
- Assist refrigeration technicians in servicing and maintaining refrigeration equipment, including coolers, freezers, and air conditioning systems.
- Perform basic electrical tasks, such as replacing lights, plugs, and switches, and assist electricians with fault-finding.
- Support building maintenance activities, including carpentry, masonry, and painting.
- Perform minor welding and fabrication tasks under supervision.
- Assist with the installation and replacement of doors, locks, handles, hinges, and other interior fittings.
- Assist with all fleet maintenance activities including high-loader trucks, light vehicles, etc.
- Conduct floor tile repairs, patching, and minor flooring works.
- Maintain tools and ensure proper storage of maintenance equipment and materials.
- Adhere to health, safety, and environmental standards during all maintenance activities.
- Report potential hazards, maintenance issues, or material shortages to the Maintenance Supervisor promptly.
- Support emergency maintenance work and participate in standby or weekend duties as required.

**Qualifications & Experience**:

- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (essential).
- N2 or higher qualification in a technical field (Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Maintenance) - advantageous.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a general maintenance or artisan assistant role.
- Valid driver’s license (Code 10) - advantageous.
- Basic knowledge of maintenance tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Exposure to working in industrial, catering, or manufacturing environments will be an added advantage.

**Knowledge and Skills**:

- Technical aptitude and willingness to learn multiple trades.
- Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments safely
- Professional and respectful when interacting with colleagues and external contractors
