Junior Economist

-The main purpose of this position is to conduct economic research and analysis as well as economic forecasting and model development to support policy formulation and an understanding of economic developments within the South African Reserve Bank (SARB). -Detailed Description Assist more senior economists by conducting research and analysis (including forward-looking analysis) of domestic and global economic trends as well as important policy issues. - Assist with the preparation of presentations and present findings of research to meetings of his/her team, demonstrating an ability to engage productively with colleagues. - Identify international and macroeconomic research and policy issues, and contribute to research projects and economic notes. - Assist with the generation of economic forecasts. - Assist with the development of economic models. - Coordinate and respond to general economic or statistical queries. - Support the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) with economic analysis and participate in the preparation for MPC meetings. Job Requirements an Honours degree in Economics, with a pass mark of over 70%. Additional requirements include: - being task-orientated, with time management skills to operate in a deadline-driven environment that often requires working under pressure, without compromising on quality; - the ability to work independently as well as within a team/project environment; - good report writing skills; - initiative and problem-solving skills; - good communication and interpersonal skills; and - the ability to pay attention to detail.
