**Purpose of Role**:
The JGF Teacher Coach is the dedicated support person for the novice teacher and the primary point of contact with JGF during the Professional Teacher Induction Programme (PTIP). The Teacher Coach is responsible for supporting and developing the novice teacher through classroom visits, online check-ins and professional development activities, as well as developing relationships with the school’s senior management team.
This role is **both office-based and remote. **This hybrid approach allows JGF to deliver its programme while creating a flourishing, modern work environment. Frequent local travel (driving) is required for this role.
**Objectives of Role**:
**1. Supporting novice teachers**
- Visiting schools and providing support, coaching and professional development to a minimum of 30 Foundation Phase teachers on JGF’s two-year Professional Teacher Induction Programme (PTIP)
- Implement and provide feedback on the various programmatic activities of the PTIP
- Meet each novice teacher at least three times a term at their school in the Western Cape to observe and support the novice teacher
- Conduct lesson observations and feedback conversations using tools and platforms provided
- Conduct professional development activities as per the PTIP handbook, including, but not limited to Funda Wande literacy and numeracy training and Lego Learn through Play pedagogies
- Demonstrate professional and pedagogical care for the novice teachers
**2. School liaison**
- Follow the Standard Operating Procedures for JGF Teacher Coaches in relation to communication and contact with schools in which novice teachers are teaching
- Initiate and establish professional relationships with the Principal, Senior Management Team, Head of Department and School-based Mentor as needed
- Liaise with the school to ensure the novice teacher has a suitable School-based Mentor and meets with them regularly (minimum of once per half year)
- Share training and development opportunities for School-based Mentors
- Compile programme progress reports for the Makers Hub Manager at agreed intervals.
- Analysing information and data and compiling reports to the Makers Hub Manager on implementation, performance, and impact of Makers Start-up Academy.
- Perform quarterly and annual programme retrospective, prioritization & plans
**3. JGF Activities**
- Facilitate Online Community Meets and Professional Learning Community events
- Participates in planning meetings for regional and national programme activities and events (e.g. orientation, mentor training, Summit, year-end) and execute tasks assigned in the event project plan
- Meet weekly with the JGF Programme team
- Submit monthly reports on each novice teacher
- Report programmatic interpretations to the Programme lead to inform the refinement of the PTIP
- Meet with relevant District Education Department officials when requested
**Experience and Qualifications**:
**Required Qualification**:Teacher qualification (B.Ed or Degree + PGCE)
**Required Experience**:5+ years classroom experience teaching in Foundation Phase in primary school(s) in the Western Cape and/or elsewhere in South Africa
**Preferred Experience**:Training in, or experience with Funda Wande and Lego Foundation Learn through Play materials
**Other**:
- Registered or previously registered with SACE
- Own transport and valid driver’s license
- South African citizen or permanent resident
- Strong understanding of South Africa’s Foundation Phase environment and Provincial and National Literacy & Numeracy strategies
- Fluency in English and one or two additional South African languages preferrable
