**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Designing, planning, and managing data communication networks for the organization
- Inspecting network systems including their performance and readiness and take into consideration bandwidth requirements, infrastructure requirements and security
- Directing large-scale network and security infrastructure projects
- Managing information and network security
- Network Security: security equipment on the network and to ensure it is installed at the proper location to provide maximum security with minimum performance impact
- Consider how an additional firewall or content filter will impact performance
- Implementing strategic network and security designs while following industry best practices
- Manage technical network solutions and frameworks
- Overseeing the network implementation process, including setting schedules and budgets
- Monitor and coordinate the work of other IT specialists working on the same project to ensure compliance
- The network architect must take into consideration bandwidth and infrastructure requirements, as well as safety, and the ability of the network to expand over time
- Engage in network modeling and analysis
- Estimating the effects of network growth on existing network traffic
- Using information on existing network traffic and estimating the effects of growth on the network.
- Model the effect that newer equipment might have on network performance to make accurate upgrade recommendations to management
- Design and manage security countermeasures when network vulnerabilities arise
- Establishing performance management metrics for networks
- Recommend areas of upgrade for network hardware and software components as required
- Maintain existing network adaptors and upgrade obsolete hardware and software components: Performing maintenance and repairs to network equipment
- Participating in meetings to gather information regarding data, business, and user requirements
- Collaborating with management staff to determine the organization's networking needs
- Presenting network plans to management staff: Preparing project plans, including schedule, resources, and budget estimates to present to management staff
- Keep accurate record of operations to serve as point of reference in times of need
- Researching network technologies and staying up to date on advancements in the field
- Review network vendors and suppliers to ensure that quality network materials are supplied for projects.
- Assist the organization in deciding the best network plan to pursue, its long-term benefit, profitability, and cost implications
- Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common network problems.
- Performing tests, installation, and maintenance on required equipment
- Documentation:

- Keeping documentation of networks, including drawings, descriptions, and configurations
- Properly document network designs: this includes network drawings, text descriptions and equipment configurations
- Documentation for disaster recovery scenarios

**Minimum Requirements**:

- Matric certificate (required)
- Degree/Diploma (required)
- CCIE/HCIE/JNCIE/CCDP certificate (required)
- A minimum of 8-year experience in network architecture
- Experience in managing stakeholders and projects outputs
