Medical Aid rate based on principal member only)- To be confirmed- Advert Closing Date- 15/12/2024- Job Purpose- The purpose of this position is for the incumbent to provide architectural services as defined in the Architectural Profession Act 2000 (Act No 44 of 2000) within the Infrastructure Development and Facilities Management Department. The incumbent must: - have a practical understanding of structures and materials to develop concepts, plans, specifications and detailed drawings for buildings and other structures. - must be able to negotiate with all internal and external stakeholders such as contractors, planning authorities andend-users. - administer building contracts. - inspect the work carried out and take into account all aspects of the design, structure and purpose of a building project. - Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience- A relevant Bachelor’s Degree or BTech in Architecture (NQF Level 7) - Professionally registered with SACAP (South African Council for the Architectural Profession) - At least Five (5) years related experience. - A Valid Driver’s License - Must have strong background within the built environment. - Proven experience with construction contracts - Proven experience in the procurement process of projects - Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities- Preparing submissions and obtaining necessary approvals from authorities. - Develop master plans for proposed university buildings and prepare detailed development and other plans and specifications. - Designs for projects and/or review architectural or engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents for building construction projects to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and any other minimum standards/ criteria. - Prepare and/or review preliminary designs, working drawings, specifications, and cost estimates pertaining to the construction of buildings and building systems. - Prepare final sketch drawings, production drawings and detailed drawings, and combine structural, mechanical, and artistic elements, including plumbing and heating units, electrical outlets, and air-conditioning installations. - Discuss requirements of clients or contractors (to design a new structure or modify an existing one) and prepare a brief. - Discuss designs and cost estimates with all stakeholders such as clients, engineers, quantity surveyors, landscape architects and town planners. - Conducts structural, mechanical, electrical, operational, and maintenance surveys and recommends corrective action where necessary. - Prepare specifications and contract documents, specifying building materials, construction equipment and, in some cases, the interior furnishings. - Participate in preparation and evaluation of tenders. - Observe, inspect, and monitor building work, to make sure that it is progressing according to the contract and specifications. - Visits sites of building projects during their construction and confers with field inspection staff to determine contract and regulation compliance. - Advises contractors on the interpretation of plans, recommends changes, when necessary. - Evaluate projects once they are completed and occupied. - Provides technical expertise in development or review of policies and procedures in relation to architectural structures and systems and construction/safety codes. - Conduct project feasibility studies, strategic asset investigations, heritage studies, urban planning, interior design, or landscape design. - Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work. - Competencies- Good communication skills - Self-confidence - Good organizational skills - Good planning ability - Good report writing - Able to relate to people. - Creative flair - Able to analyze problems logically. - Artistic mind - Knowledge of laws and government regulations, - Knowledge of materials, methods, construction contracts, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings, and other structures. - Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. - General InformationClosing Date: 15 December 2024 **NB: PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SYSTEM DOES NOT ALLOW APPLICANTS TO UPLOAD CVs.
