**JOB TITLE Safety Officer**

**DEPARTMENT Operations**

**REPORTING TO Operations Manager**

**AREA Johannesburg**

**Key Performance Areas**:
OSHEM Compliance, OSHEM Auditing OSHEM Administration, OSHEM Reporting

**PURPOSE**

The purpose of this role is monitor and review OSHEM across sites and in the Fire Sprinkler Environment, to identify risks and to recommend corrective action. The role is also responsible for making sure that all statutory requirements of the OSH Act are compiled on the companies' sites.

**OSHEM Compliance**
- Develop compliance standards by understanding requirements, developing compliance guidelines, policies and procedures and communicating compliance requirements as necessary
- Train on compliance by developing training content, delivering OSHEM training and monitoring implementation of learning as required.
- Monitor OSHEM compliance by understanding compliance requirements, assessing compliance, identifying areas of non-compliance and implementing corrective action as required.

Collaborate with Operations on compliance by supporting implementation of OSHEM requirements on sites, providing advice and guidance, problem solving and solutions and reviewing OSHEM initiatives as required.

**OSHEM Auditing**
- Audit site safety by conducting site visits and spot checks of consultant managed sites, assessing compliance with safety requirements, identifying risks and addressing areas of non-compliance, reporting on standards to be complied with and following up to monitor implementation of corrective action weekly and as required.
- Monitor site safety compliance with consultants by reviewing safety reports, identifying risks and areas of non-compliance, liaising with consultants to address non-compliance and monitoring implementation of corrective action monthly and as required.

**OSHEM Administration**
- Maintain the health and safety files by defining file requirements, reviewing and updating files, identifying gaps and sourcing and adding relevant information monthly and as required

**Qualifications**
- An NQF 5 qualification in health and safety is required

**Experience**
- 3 - 5 years in OSHEM in the built environment is required
- Experience in the fire protection (Sprinkler Instillations / construction environment) is preferred.
