The Durbanville Children’s Home is a residential child and youth care centre and a programme of BADISA, which was jointly founded by the Dutch Reformed Church (Western Cape) and the United Reformed Church in Southern Africa.

Our Care Department requires a Staff Nurse who will be required to provide medical care to the children in connection with prescribed medication, medical care and routine nursing care. Ensure that the general care of the children is of the highest quality.

**Minimum requirements**
- Fluent in both English and Afrikaans
- Valid Driver’s License non negotiable
- Qualification that allows registration with the SANC as a Staff Nurse.
- Registration with the SANC as Enrolled Nurse.
- A minimum of 5-10 years’ appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as Staff Nurse.
- Experience of both private - and government health sectors would be beneficial.
- Must be able to understand and work with traumatised children
- Must be able to work within a therapeutic environment

**Key responsibilities**
- Ensure that the children receive prescribed medical care
- Arrange hospital admissions, liaise with hospital staff and visit patients
- Compiling medical records of children
- Receiving and recording medical supplies
- Ensure that applicable policies and legislation regarding nursing are applied
- Arrange medical appointments for children
- Issuing and recording medication
- Control of emergency equipment
- Routine nursing care
- Arrange child testing for drugs when needed
- Available for emergencies
- Ensure that children receive the following:

- Deworming
- Dental Care
- Eye Screening
- Immunization
- Guidance to children and staff regarding sexuality, diseases and consequences of smoking and drugs.
- Assessment of child's medical and general condition with admission
