Technical Manager

Our Industrial Battery Client is currently looking for a Group Technical Manager based in Elandsfontein, JHB

Purpose

Purpose Managing the technical department to ensure smooth operations. Continuous improvement for the warranty process by formalizing the company’s warranty policy, assessing claims, and reporting on claims. Training all staff nationally on company products.

Remuneration

R30 000 - R40 000 per Month (CTC)

Working hours - 07:30am to 17:00pm Mondays to Fridays

**Requirements**:

- Electrical Engineering or relevant technical qualification and experience.
- Battery/Technical knowledge is a must
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in warranties and support in a technical environment
- Minimum 7 years’ experience providing technical training to staff and customers
- Acid resistant overalls, safety shoes and other safety equipment will be supplied

Warranties
- Supervising of warranty assistant
- Strategizing on processes or procedures and implementation to improve warrant process
- Drafting and submission of warranty policy to directors
- Overseeing daily operations of warranty department
- Responsible for the receipt of all claims returned by the drivers and/or customers
- Ensure that all returns are labelled correctly and clearly with as many details with as many details of the customers as possible
- Responsible for ensuring that all returns fall within the stipulated warranty period
- Responsible for ensuring faulty batteries have not been damaged due to abuse
- Responsible for ensuring that correct procedures are adhered to with regards to the necessary paperwork that is required when batteries are returned by customers/drivers
- Automotive batteries MUST be analyzed and processed within 36 hours of being returned
- Renewable batteries to be analyzed and processed within 2 weeks
- Chargers/electronics - 2-week turnaround time
- The turnaround time of warranty claims is crucial
- Responsible for ensuring that all charging of returned batteries is done timeously
- Communication with the customers and/or sales team is imperative
- Ensure that the customer and/or sales/admin receive all the
- appropriate paperwork when batteries returned after charging or replaced (in the case of a valid claim)
- Authorization of warranty claims - any one claim write off of R10 000 or over (per claim or client) is to be authorized by the branch manager. The appropriate warranty claim invoice and credit note must accompany replacement batteries
- Liaise with both sales staff and the dispatch supervisor in order to ensure customers receives goods promptly
- Responsible for compiling and issuing relative reports concerning the reason for battery failure or faults
- Manage debtor’s vs client returns %
- Responsible for compiling a quarterly report on the % warranty rate for group warranties
- All returns are to be placed in the dispatch area and the dispatch supervisor is to be advised of the necessary paperwork. Ensure that they are dispatched
- All scrap MUST be communicated to the Branch Manager and is to be dealt with accordingly
- Responsible for all testing equipment and tools in the testing’s bay. All must be accounted for.
- Responsible for reporting if tools are in need of maintenance
- Responsible for advising management of material requirements for testing equipment and/or other.
- Liaise with the storeman with regards to old stock batteries that may require recharging - new stock is to be spot checked to ensure batteries are ready to be sold
- Should there be batteries that require replacing (under warranty) that are not in stock. Ensure proper communication
- with warehouse with regards to replenishment stock, in order to notify customer as soon as these become available
- Any claim referred back that is out of warranty MUST be referred back to the client immediately
- Any returned batteries, where a warranty is issued and is recoverable are to be marked as loan batteries and accounted for.
- Fully accountable and responsible for equipment, stock, and tools, in the warranty department

Product support
- Resolving daily technical queries/enquiries for the group - assistance is to be brief and specific
- Sizing up UPS and solar systems, re-batterying and commissioning when required
- Ensuring that both the company and the client base have the correct equipment for testing as per the managing directors’ requirements
- Site visits to clients when necessary - motivation to be submitted to branch manager
- Design of new technical specification documents if necessary and only when required. This is to be done in conjunction with liaising with the marketing department in DBN.
- Day-to-day facilitation of warranty/technical processes
- After-hours technical emergencies
- Reports for suppliers on product defects against agreements in place with suppliers (Maximizing money back from suppliers) - to be submitted to directors regularly
