Sense is looking for a dairy development expert to join our team as we develop dairy value chains in the rest of Africa. This role is suited to someone looking to use their specialist animal -nutrition, -health and -productivity and dairy skills in more strategic & commercial ways.

**You’ll be working with the team to**:
1. Provide practical advice to extensionists & farmers
2. Develop training programs & materials for dairy extension officers.
3. Provide recommendations on new or improved commercial agri-services.
4. Provide support on extension service transformation
5. Gather data for economic modelling, skills assessments etc.
A cornerstone project involves supporting the transformation of small-scale dairy producers & processors in the Horn of Africa. The project includes travel to build the skills of extensionists, providing technical advice to improve access to feed and fodder and to manage herds & lactation cycles, supporting milk collection centers in commercial service development etc.
In South Africa you will develop training material, gather insights on technical solutions & commercial models that we can take abroad, develop strategies and advisory reports, provide technical advice that we can use for economic modelling etc. An essential part of the role is being a sounding board for the team and helping to build the livestock, poultry and dairy knowledge of our company.

You should have the following
- Strategic
- You are able to identify technical solutions & conceptualize new systems and processes.
- Practical
- You can translate ideas into practical plans, initiatives, projects, reports etc.
- Output oriented
- You work towards clear, measurable outputs
- Training focus - You have experience in training and development of farmers or extensionists and can develop & deliver practical trainings and course material.
- Commercial orientation
- You can link ideas to measurable results, revenue, costs etc.
- Numeric
- You are good with numbers and are detail oriented enough to be able to collect reliable commercial and technical data.
- Commercial farm experience in dairy - AI, herd management, feed ration development, milking systems etc. Poultry experience is valued.
- Fact finder
- You enjoy scouting for information, interviewing experts, collecting insights & making these practically relevant to the layperson in the private sector.
- Writing skills
- You are able to produce simply written, intelligible reports with professional layouts in MS WORD & PPT.

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum Honours in Animal Science, Animal nutrition or Veterinary Science (Masters will be an added advantage)
- Practical commercial experience
