Gallery Assistant

An Art Gallery has an exciting new opportunity for the position of a suitably qualified Gallery Assistant. This Stellenbosch junior based position is a short term contract with the possibility of extension. Office hours are 9h00 - 17h00 Monday - Friday and 10h00 - 15h00 Saturdays (2 Saturdays per month). The position includes day to day running of the space, gallery administration, artist liaison, assistance with exhibition management, client liaison and sales. Design knowledge a bonus

**Salary**: Dependant on experience, Junior
Job type: Short Term contract with the possibility of an extension
Start: as soon as possible
Hours: Monday - Friday, 9h00 - 17h00, with overtime during busy periods and exhibition openings and 2 Saturdays per month (10h00 - 15h00)
Reporting to Gallery Directors

**Duties: (Include but not limited to)**
- Day to day running of the space
- Assisting with day to day office administration
- Assisting with artwork administration and artwork management
- Responsible for upkeep of gallery stock, storerooms and gallery data base
- Basic client and artist liaison
- Basic supplier management
- Assisting with artwork sales and post-sale client liaison
- Assisting with basic artwork shipments
- Assisting with general gallery deliveries/collections in and around Cape Town and Stellenbosch area
- Assisting with general gallery design need - InDesign, Photoshop

**Requirements**:

- Excellent written and verbal communication (English)
- Must be highly organised, professional and accurate
- Excellent administration skills, efficient and methodical with strong attention to detail
- Strong time management and planning skills and able to prioritise in a flexible manner
- Work well under pressure
- Trustworthy and loyal
- Strong work ethics
- Must be able to adapt to and implement systems/new processes
- Minimum of 1- 2 years’ work experience
- Non-smoker (preferable)
- Driver’s license & contactable references are required
- Computer Literacy : Mac and Excel proficient
- Photoshop, InDesign a bonus

**Job Types**: Full-time, Temporary
Contract length: 3 months

Pay: R10 000,00 - R12 000,00 per month

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Stellenbosch, Western Cape (Stellenbosch, Cape Winelands): Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (preferred)
