Senior Bookkeeper

**1. Purpose of the Job**
Develops system to account for financial transactions by establishing a chart of accounts, defining bookkeeping policies and procedures. Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary account summaries. Balances general ledger by preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries.
**2. Key Responsibilities**

- Maintains historical records by filing documents;
- Prepares financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends;
- Maintain inventory records and asset register;
- Complies with state, and local legal requirements by studying requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing reports;
- Advising senior management on needed actions and providing necessary support;
- Perform financial calculations, such as amounts due, interest charges, balances, discounts and equity;
- Reconcile or note and report discrepancies found in records;
- Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers.
- Compare computer printouts to manually maintained journals to determine if they match.
- Match order forms with invoices, and record the necessary information.
- Prepare and process payroll information;
- Prepare bank deposits by compiling data from cashiers, verifying and balancing receipts, and sending cash, checks, or other forms of payment to banks;
- Calculate and prepare checks for utilities, taxes, and other payments;
- Monitor status of loans and accounts to ensure that payments are up to date;
- Assist to complete and submit tax forms and returns, workers' compensation forms, pension contribution forms, and other government documents;
- Calculate, prepare, and issue bills, invoices, account statements, and other financial statements;
- Calculate costs of materials, overhead, and other expenses, based on estimates, quotations and price lists;
- Prepare purchase orders and expense reports;
- Prepare trial balances of books bi-weekly and monthly;
- Compile statistical, financial, accounting, or auditing reports and tables pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses;
- Training junior staff and supervising;
- Proactive assist to identify ways to improve;
- Perform general office duties, such as filing, answering telephones, and handling routine correspondence;
- Ad hoc financial duties when required.
**3. Educational Qualification**:
- Matric Certificate
- Bookkeeping Diploma
- Accounting Diploma/Degree (preferred)
**4. Knowledge and Experience**:
- Minimum 5 year relevant practical experience in a similar capacity and or in an organization specializing in Tendering
- Knowledge of MS office package: Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Extensive knowledge of accounting principals and standards

- Will be required to work overtime from time to time with short notice

**Salary**: R15,000.00 - R20,000.00 per month
