The SSAUF intends to identify and nurture academic talent early in the academic development trajectory, and to support newly recruited academics to develop teaching expertise; develop research skills, including scientific publication skills. The new generation of academics’ programme (nGAP), comprising one element of the SSAUF, involves the recruitment of highly capable scholars as new academics. Appointment within the nGAP programme will be made such that staff equity targets are met, with preference to black and/or women South African citizens.
