**Role Overview**

We are seeking a knowledgeable and hands-on **Operations Manager** to lead our yard and logistics team. This role requires a leader with specific technical knowledge of **scrap metals and recyclables**, who can manage drivers, maintain standards in the yard, and ensure our fleet stays moving.

You will be the bridge between the yard, the admin team, and our clients. You must be proficient in Excel, possess a valid driver’s license, and be willing to assist with fleet maintenance procurement.

**Key Responsibilities**

**1. Staff & Yard Management**
- Manage the daily workflow of drivers, runners, and yard staff.
- Oversee the sorting and grading of incoming materials, ensuring strict quality control on **metals and recyclables**.
- Enforce health and safety standards (PPE usage, safe loading) at all times.
- Handle staff rostering, discipline, and time-keeping to ensure maximum productivity.

**2. Fleet Maintenance & Procurement**
- Ensure the fleet is roadworthy, clean, and compliant with road regulations.
- **Maintenance Support**: Work closely with the internal mechanic; assist in sourcing and obtaining comparative quotes for truck parts, tyres, and repairs to ensure cost savings.
- Monitor fuel usage and vehicle tracking to minimize wastage.

**3. Logistics & Route Planning**
- **Admin Collaboration**: Work hand-in-hand with the Admin Team every morning/afternoon to plan and optimize daily routes.
- Ensure that the schedule is realistic and that all clients are serviced on time.
- Adapt routes on the fly to handle urgent collections or vehicle breakdowns.

**4. Disposal & External Relationships**
- Manage the flow of materials to **foundries and landfills**.
- Maintain professional relationships with disposal sites to ensure smooth offloading and correct pricing.
- Handle client escalations professionally and conduct site visits to assess waste/metal volumes when necessary.

**5. Administration & Reporting**
- Use **Microsoft Excel** to track tonnage, yard stock, fleet costs, and staff hours.
- Submit weekly operational reports to management regarding targets and fleet status.

**Requirements**:
**Essential Knowledge & Skills**:

- **Metal & Recyclables Expertise**: Must have strong knowledge of different waste streams, specifically distinguishing between ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and other recyclable grades.
- **Drivers License**: A valid Driver’s License (Code [08/10/14]) is **Essential**.
- **Mechanical Aptitude**: Ability to understand vehicle issues and source the correct parts/quotes effectively.

**Experience**:

- Minimum [3-5] years in Waste Management, Scrap Metal Recycling, or Logistics.
- Proven experience managing a team of drivers and general workers.

**Personal Attributes**:

- **Collaborative**: Ability to work well with administrative staff to ensure paperwork and routing match physical operations.
- **Client Facing**: Presentable and professional when dealing with clients face-to-face.
- **Tough & Fair**: Able to manage general staff firmly while maintaining morale.

Pay: R15 000,00 - R18 000,00 per month

**Experience**:

- Waste Management: 3 years (preferred)

License/Certification:
