RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Managing Data Centres:

- Manage environmental infrastructure (power distribution, earthing, lightning protection to data centre(s) and UPS’s and HVAC);
- Plan, forecast and schedule work, and provide leadership with regards to functioning of the Data Centre;
- Control and manage performance within the Data Centre, and organise the work and staff within the Data Centre;
- Ensure that the backup system and procedures are adhered to, manage all tasks associated with the maintenance and enhancements, and ensure that the necessary maintenance and call logging is done on equipment;
- Physical Infrastructure Environments:

- Assess whether the necessary environmental infrastructures are in place and functional, and that the necessary corrective steps are taken regarding failures and/or problems;
- Ensure that infrastructure installations are done according to the ITS specifications document;
- Manage physical infrastructure maintenance for data centres, server rooms, as well as network rooms across all UP campuses;
- Conduct regular site inspections across all campuses;
- UPS’s:

- Ensure preventative maintenance measures are in place, and manage maintenance contract of large UPS's;
- Supervise capturing of all in the inventory list and monitoring system where applicable;
- Monitor UPS’s and batteries through the management system;
- Manage the procurement of UPS’s and batteries as per requirement within budget framework, as well as the maintenance and repairs on small UPS’s, in the most cost-effective way;
- Optical Mark Reading:

- Oversee and manage the Optical Mark reading system with regards to the parameter pre-requisites on marking of tests, examinations, and student feedback on tuition;
- Manage quality control with regards to accuracy of marked tests, examinations, and student feedback;
- Liaise with the relevant role players;
- Ensure that enough media stock is available in adequate levels to satisfy user needs;
- Access control:

- Enforce and ensure that proper access control is in place, and adhered to in the data centres and network rooms;
- Supervise new access control installations where required;
- Projects:

- Ensure involvement with various teams in the planning phases of the environmental infrastructure of data centres and rooms;
- Advise subordinates and users with regards to UPS requirements, and provide advice and guidance to ensure that the necessary quality measures are in place with installations;
- ITS fleet vehicles:

- Manage the division’s operations fleet vehicles with regard to bookings and cancellations;
- Ensure and coordinate that the entire ITS fleet are scheduled for their wash and inspection routine on a monthly basis, and ensure that the fleet receive their annual maintenance services as required;
- Advise management with regards to problems, maintenance and usage by personnel and student contractors;
- General administration:

- Financial management:

- Financial control, budget forecasting and spending within budget framework allocated;
- Resource management:

- Develop and manage staff, as well as the performance appraisal process with staff;
- Vendor management:

- Relationship management, and managing quotations, purchase orders and invoices;
- Asset management:

- Implement the asset verification process quarterly;
- Compile and provide monthly reports to line management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

- IT related National Diploma (e.g. National Diploma Computer Science, National Diploma in Information Technology); with
- A total of six years’ experience, which include:

- Sound experience of data centre operations and work flow;
- Data centre infrastructure and network room requirements;
- Working in projects teams;
- Server infrastructure technologies;
- Storage infrastructure technologies;
- Data centre security, and security systems technologies;
- Backup infrastructure technologies;
- Budgeting processes;

OR
- An applicable three-year Bachelor’s degree or B Tech (B.Sc., B. Com Informatics), with
- A total of four years’ experience, which include:

- Sound experience of data centre operations and work flow;
- Data centre infrastructure and network room requirements;
- Working in projects teams;
- Server infrastructure technologies;
- Storage infrastructure technologies;
- Data centre security, and security systems technologies;
- Backup infrastructure technologies;
- Budgeting processes.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

- Knowledge of:

- Analysing requirements and developing resulting reports;
- HVAC;
- Change control procedures;
- Uninterrupted power supply systems, and a general understanding of electricity;
- Business services, SLA management, availability management and capacity management principles;
- Good planning skills (Project planning and execution);
- Technical competencies:
