Job Title- Senior Lecturer: Geography Education and/or Social Sciences Education (Job ID: 5892)- Organizational Unit- University of the Free State -> Faculty of Education -> Department Social Sciences and Commerce Education- Contract Type- Permanent- Occupational Level- Junior Management- Location- Qwaqwa Campus - Qwaqwa, FS ZA (Primary) - Closing Date- 25/9/2024- Description**Duties and responsibilities**: - Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Geography Education mainly and/or Social Sciences education modules. - Participate in the Work Integrated Learning programme of the faculty (Teaching Practice). - Ensure active involvement in research activities of Faculty. - Contribute to curriculum development in the field of Social Sciences Education specifically and Education generally. - Supervise and provide consultation sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students. - Work in a team with colleagues within the faculty. - Contribute to leadership and administrative tasks related to the faculty. **Inherent Job requirements**: **Senior Lecturer** - A relevant Doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 in Geography Education and/or Social Sciences Education. - A formal teaching qualification (e.g. Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent) with Geography as one of the majors. - A minimum of five (5) years relevant working experience with at least three (3) years in a higher education or research and development environment. - Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship. - An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating. - Proven experience in supervision of graduated honours and, master’s degree students. - Proven recent research record of publications in Q1-Q4 national and international accredited journals. - Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels. **Recommendations**: - Experience in high impact engaged scholarship activities within communities. - Competencies**Key Competencies Required**: - **Results-oriented**: - The ability to cope with a frequently changing environment and to adapt to evolving situations. - The ability to be reliable, responsible, dependable and to fulfil obligations. **- Strategic thinking**: - The ability to be creative and open-minded when addressing work issues. - The ability to carefully analyse information and use logic to address issues and problems at work. **- Business Acumen**: - The ability to adhere to rules and strictly follow work regulations. - Proficient in using MS Office and other relevant software programmes and platforms**.**: - **Leading**: - The ability to maintain high levels of personal motivation, energy and enthusiasm. - The ability to be cooperative with others, display a good-natured attitude and encourage people to work together. **- Building coalitions**: - The ability to be self-assured and at ease with people in all types of social situations. - The ability to make decisions through consultation, collaboration and working with close supervision. **Required documents** - A detailed curriculum vitae and cover letter. - Copies of qualifications (please provide the SAQA accreditation in the case of foreign qualifications). - Copies of all academic records (applicable where inherently required). - A copy of your identity document (ID or passport in the case of foreign nationals). - Proof of registration with a Professional Body (if applicable). - A copy of your driver’s license (if applicable). - Confirmation of employment from current employer / last employer if unemployed (only applicable to external applicants). **Assumption of duties**: 02 January 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. **Closing date**: 25 September 2024 **Salary**: The salary is available on request. **Enquiries**: **Fringe benefits**: (Subject to specific conditions): pension scheme, medical aid scheme, group life insurance, housing allowance, leave and sick leave, service bonus and study benefits. **General**: **_ _
