**Purpose of the Job**:
The Group Value Engineering Manager is responsible for developing, championing, and leading the value engineering
practice across the Shoprite Group. The role leads a team of Value Engineers in the conceptualisation and execution of
value engineering projects and initiatives, with the aim of increasing the value and quality of products, processes,
systems, equipment, and/or material at the lowest cost, while maintaining optimal functionality, improved
environmental performance and an enhanced customer experience. As an experienced Engineer, the role provides
leadership on value engineering practices, working collaboratively across a multi-disciplinary team to develop and
implement sustainable business initiatives that drives efficiencies, optimises costs, enhances operational performance,
and enables business growth. This is a leadership role requiring a combination of technical and analytics expertise,
strategic thinking, influencing skills and commercial acumen.

**Job Objectives**:
**Value Engineering**
- Craft the value engineering strategy, working alongside the Group Sustainability Manager to lead and drive value

engineering developments that are streamlined for cost, efficiency, environmental performance, and functionality.
- Lead and drive value engineering project design, development, and execution, managing costs within budget while

assuming full accountability for delivery on expected KPI benefits.
- Develop and quantify business cases using robust research and engineering principles to determine comprehensive

cost, benefit and return analysis.
- Work closely with suppliers and cross functional teams to identify and quantify key business drivers and challenges

and take calculated action to mitigate risks and determine optimal solutions.
- Support business stakeholders including stores operations, distribution centres and supply chain to define,

develop and execute their engineering and sustainability strategies in line with Group Sustainability, value

engineering and business objectives.
- Drive project governance across the Group, ensuring process and quality compliance in line with organisational

and legislative standards.
- Develop methodologies to measure and improve value engineering KPIs and data inventories.
- Prepare and report on key value engineering and sustainability KPIs to various stakeholders within the business

and support the production of the periodic internal and external reports, providing KPIs and insights into

sustainable developments.
- Research, investigate and review new, emerging, and existing technologies that can benefit the Group, across all

operations and functions.
- Present business cases and pitch concepts and ideas to executive steering committees, leadership teams and

external stakeholders.

**Supplier Management**
- Lead complex negotiations and contracting with suppliers, anticipating risks while using robust negotiation

techniques that yields improved value and functionality and reduces costs.
- Manage supplier performance, assuming oversight over quality, cost and outcomes while maintaining continuous

improvement and development of capabilities and capacities that benefit the organisation at large.
- Develop robust supplier processes, KPIs, performance targets, screenings, and approvals, allowing for maximum

value of business requirements.
- Investigate any quality concerns, addressing factors such as material suitability, specifications, verification methods,

and variability and ensure timeous and proactive resolution.

**People Management**
- Guide, coach, and mentor the value engineering team on key enterprise value levers and how to incorporate related

concepts into business projects and client engagements.
- Ensure the team is appropriately structured and resourced to deliver on its mandate with the right people in the

right roles with the right capabilities at the right time.
- Champion and promote best practice in value engineering, continually benchmarking against industry standards

and advancing the practice as a strategic driver across the Group.

**Qualifications**:

- Degree in Industrial Engineering or a related Engineering or similar field

**Experience**:

- +6 years’ experience in a Senior Value Engineering capacity or similar leadership role, with expert level knowledge
in the practice of value engineering methodology along with demonstrable experience managing large scale
projects with substantial financial impact - (essential)
focused on delivering value and business improvement initiatives - (essential).
- Experience engaging with and influencing multiple stakeholders including senior leadership and suppliers
- (essential).
- Experience in a retail or property environment - (preferred).
