Job Title- Lecturer (in Agricultural Economics or related discipline) (Job ID: 5917)- Organizational Unit- University of the Free State -> Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences -> Department Agricultural Economics- Contract Type- Permanent- Occupational Level- Junior Management- Location- Bloemfontein Campus - Bloemfontein, FS ZA (Primary) - Closing Date- 20/10/2024- Description**Duties and responsibilities**: - Present undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Agricultural Economics. - Contribute to research projects and initiatives focused on strengthening the grain and oilseed industry. - Represent the university in industry forums, conferences, and networking events, promoting partnerships and advocating for the importance of grain-focused education and research. - Synthesize knowledge through the publication of scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. - Source funding for research from international national funding organizations. - Develop and implement initiatives to enhance the practical relevance of academic programs, integrating industry best practices and real-world experiences. - Provide assistance and mentorship to students, faculty, and staff engaged in agricultural programs and research related to grain and oilseed production. **Inherent Job Requirements**: Lecturer - A PhD in Agricultural Economics or related discipline on NQF Level 10 (for a permanent appointment) or - Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics or related discipline on NQF Level 9 (contract appointment: five years during which a PhD on NQF Level 10 or related discipline MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position). - Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities. - Evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals. - A good academic record. **Recommendations**: - Minimum of 5 years professional experience in the agricultural sector, with a focus on the grain and oilseed industry. - Demonstrated track record of successful collaboration with stakeholders in the grain and oilseed industry, academia, and/or research institutions. - Comprehensive knowledge of trends, challenges, and opportunities within the grain and oilseed industry, including market dynamics etc. - Proven ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships with industry stakeholders, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange. - Ability to translate industry insights and practical experience into academic programs and research projects, enriching the learning environment. - Proven record of published popular articles, radio/tv interviews, and/or presentations related to the grain and oilseed industry. - Competencies**Key Competencies Required**: - **Results oriented**: - The ability to set high standards, establish tough goals, and to work to achieve success. - The ability to cope with a frequently changing environment and to adapt to evolving situations. **- Strategic thinking**: - The ability to focus on details, work towards perfection, and approach work in a neat and organised manner. - The ability to plan work and to follow plans. **- Business Acumen**: - The ability to adhere to rules and strictly follow work regulations. - Proficient in using MS Office. **- Leading**: - The ability to maintain high levels of personal motivation, energy and enthusiasm. - The ability to be cooperative with others, display a good-natured attitude and encourage people to work together. **- Building coalitions**: - The ability to be self-assured and at ease with people in all types of social situations. - The ability to be sensitive and understanding to the needs and feelings of others. **Required Documents** - A detailed curriculum vitae and cover letter. - Copies of qualifications (please provide the SAQA accreditation in the case of foreign qualifications). - Copies of all academic records (applicable where inherently required). - A copy of your identity document (ID or passport in the case of foreign nationals). - Proof of registration with a Professional Body (if applicable). - A copy of your driver’s license (if applicable). - Confirmation of employment from current employer / last employer if unemployed (only applicable to external applicants). **Assumption of duties**: As soon as possible thereafter. **Closing date**: 20 October 2024 **Salary**: The salary is available on request. **Fringe benefits**: (Subject to specific conditions): pension scheme, medical aid scheme, group life insurance, housing allowance, leave and sick leave, service bonus and study benefits. **Enquiries**: **General**: - _
