**Job Summary**

In this role, you will use your extensive knowledge of SQL, ETL and ELT processes to understand the flows of data that occur from the various systems utilised by the business to downstream BI environments and reports. You will have to be able to produce meaningful and comprehensible data flow metadata from the various sources and assist the Data Modellers in mapping the source flows to the Entities and Attributes produced in the Physical Data Models. The Senior Data Analyst will have to work with multiple systems and databases; and will also have to be able to perform data profiling, where necessary, to assist Data Modellers in gaining a complete understanding of the content and quality of the identified data sources.

**Responsibilities**
- Obtains the access required to extract metadata from existing databases and transformation processes.
- Attends daily stand-up meetings
- Attends trainings, if required (e.g., on Data Lineage Extraction tool), related to the responsibilities of the position.
- Analyses identified reports to extract various report elements and to map these to data elements identified in the physical data models.
- Analyses existing databases and transformation code to extract and document data lineage between all identified systems.
- Creates comprehensible and usable documentation and uses techniques and tools such as diagrams and matrices to convey information to project stakeholders.
- Distils the high-level business data flows from the documented technical data flows and produces documentation of these flows that are understandable to non-technical stakeholders.
- Assesses data quality in identified data sources.

**Education and Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology / Computer Science, or sufficient work experience in the field to obviate the need for a formal degree.
- 5+ years of relevant experience, with previous professional experience as a Data Analyst.
- Expert SQL skills, with data modelling and development experience a plus.
- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain key concepts in meetings and in writing to teammates from different functions and experience levels.
- Exceptional attention to detail, and the required tenacity to work through all documentation currently in existence, and where such documentation does not exist, to work through stored procedures and other code artefacts to gain a complete understanding of the as-is lineage and data.

- Capacity to work with large amounts of data, extract relevant information and draw logical conclusions.
- Ability to pay attention to detail when working with data in order to make accurate conclusions.
- Strong understanding of ETL and ELT processes.
- Knowledge of SQL.
- Working knowledge of data analysis techniques, data modelling, querying, and workflows.
- Solid understanding of data sources, data organisation and storage.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, within a team, and remotely.
- Creatively and professionally solve problems and evaluate initiatives.
- Able to take direction and respond effectively to constructive feedback.
