Technical Director

Position: Technical Director

Location: Johannesburg but will be serving branches locally and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead the project from initiation to close, ensuring quality and timely generation of project designs, reports, and cost estimates.
- Manage the overall portfolio of projects for the entire company, liaising with clients on project progress, risks, variation orders, and program-related communication.
- Design, report, and project manage infrastructure projects to meet project objectives, including preparation of proposals, tenders, and contract documents.
- Provide guidance and training to junior staff members, ensuring compliance with design specifications, standards, and safety regulations.
- Conduct site supervision of construction works, ensuring compliance with program schedules and addressing any issues that may arise.
- Develop project objectives, review proposals and plans, and determine project responsibilities and specifications.
- Maintain project schedules and budgets, monitor project progress, and prepare status reports for stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with international standards, state regulations, and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Manage project documentation, including contracts, permits, and quality assurance reports.

Administration:

- Maintain filing systems and ensure compliance with ISO standards.
- Prepare departmental budgets, monitor project budgets, and ensure adherence to financial regulations.
- Prepare claims for engineering and project management work, and negotiate contracts with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and other specialists to ensure project success.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Professional registration with relevant bodies, such as The South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions.
- Minimum 15 years of engineering, project management, and construction experience.
- Professional certification in project management.
- Knowledge of design standards, MS Projects, MS Office, and quality management ISO compliance.
- Legal knowledge of general labor law and practices.
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience in construction or refurbishment of water treatment works or similar projects.
