Calibration Technician

**CALIBRATION TECHNICIAN**

**Location: Western Cape**

**Contract: Permanent**

**The responsibilities & the impact YOU will have**:
**Broad Purpose / Function**:

- Ensures equipment compliance with regulatory and corporate good engineering practices
- Carries out preventative maintenance, calibrations, performance verifications on all equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures
- Assists in equipment troubleshooting and liaises with suppliers regarding repairs, preventative maintenance, purchasing of spares and new technology
- Ensures GMP, EHS and Quality requirements are met in the area of responsibility
- Ensure training and SOP compliance in the area of responsibility
- Actively participates in the identification and implementation of continuous improvements initiatives.
- Ensure efficient and effective delivery of the equipment availability by engaging with cross functional teams to ensure that the operation plan is met
- Responsible for Calibration of all instrumentation associated with Manufacturing, Packaging, Engineering Services, Utilities, and Building Equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance with regards to all process and facility validations
- Responsible for administration and compliance of all associated calibration documentation and systems
- Responsible for fault finding and root cause analysis in the case failure of all instrumentation and measurement equipment and systems, such as scales, balances, cooling and heating equipment and instruments controlling the water purification plant
- Responsible for the capture of equipment and instruments requiring calibration, as well the creation, capture and maintenance of Calibration Schedules on the Computerized Maintenance
- Provides technical support in the purchasing and installation on any new instruments and measuring equipment
- Provides support to the Engineering Utilities/Services function
- Provides support to Production Engineering function

**The main duties and responsibilities of the position are**:

- Ensure GMP, EHS and Quality compliance during the execution of the Plan and all related tasks.
- Compiles and reviews Equipment/ Instruments SOP’s and ensure timeous updates, performs necessary training and ensures compliance with work instructions according to the relevant SOP's
- Compliance with relevant Good Analytical Practice Requirements - equipment /services inspections and planned maintenance / Instrument calibrations / Unplanned maintenance, calibration and repairs / Corrective actions and Audit finding close out. All on time and within specifications /standards
- Communicate and discuss with the department manager and the facilities lead any situations that deviates from the standard or conflicting priorities
- Contributes to the reduction of NCs (Non-Conformances), deviations and complaints. Participates in root cause analysis,countermeasures identification and implementation
- Performs instrument troubleshooting before requesting the services of external technical service providers
- Liaises with the instrument service providers for repairs / validation / calibration of equipment
- Responsible for updating and maintaining the relevant visual maintenance & calibration measurements and information.
- Maintains records of various equipment performance criteria to view trends and with output of continuous improvement and equipment efficiency
- Ensure the integrity of the data captured in the CMMS is accurate and updated monthly
- Guarantee the order and cleanliness maintenance in the area of responsibility.
- Ensures compliance with the internal site requirements as well as HR policies and procedures. E.g. working hours, personal hygiene, etc.
- Ensure that cross functional team engagement occurs, and that communication is increased
- Conducts internal EHS/ Quality / Housekeeping audits and ensures corrective action plans are initiated and closed out for area of responsibility
- Works closely with the plant technicians and provides support with all necessary plant calibrations as per business requirements
- Responsible for the execution of Calibration tasks throughout the pharmaceutical facility
- Responsible for ensuring instrumentation used for Calibration Standards are calibrated/certified according to cGMP/Regulatory standards
- Assists with Equipment Qualification w.r.t calibration requirements
- Liaises with production department managers with respect to availability of equipment for Calibration
- Responsible for developing and communicating realistic time frames for all Calibration work to be undertaken
- Responsible for the planning of spares associated with Calibration to ensure efficient and effective Calibration
- Responsible for generating appropriate Calibration Certificates and issuing status labels for Calibration equipment
- Ensures that standard Calibration and safety procedures are followed at all time
- Closes out all engineering related audit action items for area of responsibility
