**Key Purpose**:
- The programme manager’s role is mainly operational since this person is responsible for planning and governance and for overseeing the successful delivery of the epic’s output/product into the relevant Group markets.
- Although knowledge of the business is important, there is more stress on his or her project and programme management skills. The programme manager must have practical experience of having been a project manager for large and complex initiatives. A track record of managing large deliverables in an agile environment using the Scaled Agile Framework is advantageous.
- For this role, the terms programme and epic can be used interchangeably.
**Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to**:
- Daily programme management throughout the program life cycle
- Defining the programme governance (controls)
- Planning the overall programme and monitoring the progress
- Managing the programme’s budget
- Managing risks and issues and taking corrective measurements
- Coordinating the projects and their interdependencies
- Managing and utilising resources across projects
- Managing stakeholders’ communication
- Aligning the deliverables (outputs) to the programme’s “outcome”
- Working closely with other Project Managers in respective projects within the programme.
**Personal Attributes and Skills**:
- Good knowledge and handling of project and programme management methodology and techniques in an agile environment
- Good knowledge and handling of project and programme management methodology and techniques in an agile environment
- Good understanding of the wider objectives of the programme
- Ability to work positively with the wide range of individuals involved in programme management
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Good knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures
- The ability to find innovative ways to resolve problems
- Collaborate with Product Management and System and Solution Architects/Engineering to decompose the epic into features and prioritize the features of Agile Release Train (ART) backlogs
- Participate in Program Increment (PI) Planning, System Demos and whenever there is critical activity related to the epic
- Coordinate and synchronize epic-related activities with all stakeholders
- Understand and report on the progress of the epic’s MVP with key stakeholders
- Ensures all epic features are expressions of value and have a clear benefit hypothesis / statement (answering: why should we build this feature?) and clear acceptance criteria
- Facilitates a fast response from the relevant stakeholders to epic related questions
- Works with Release Train Engineers (RTEs) to provide a forecast view of future features, milestones and deliverables
- Continually assesses the viability of the epic, leading indicators and the outcomes defined for the epic
**Education and Experience**:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5-7 years in Project Management (Good track record of handling large, strategic and complex projects)
- Expert in planning, communication (written and verbal), presentation, negotiation, facilitation
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Word, Excel
- Agile certification (preferably in SAFe)
- Experience with DevOps and increasing Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment maturity is advantageous
