Durban University of Technology (DUT) is located on the warm east coast of South Africa. It sprawls over seven

(7) campuses in tropical and picturesque Durban, and in Pietermaritzburg, with its undulating hills that flow over from the Drakensberg Mountain.

**Post: FINANCE OFFICERS RESEARCH (X3)**
**Minimum Requirements**:

- Degree in Accountancy or Finance (NQF Level 7)
- Minimum of 2 to 4 years' experience in finance and private funding financial accounting and related administration
- Knowledge of relevant legislative and DHET funding requirements
- Knowledge of funders/donors and their funding objectives and requirements
- Understanding of the Higher Education environment
- Understanding of Financial management practices
- Understanding of Financial systems
- Advanced Proficiency in MS Office
- Demonstrated ability to engage with various internal and external stakeholder engagement
- Report writing skills

Duties (but not limited to):

- Monitor and maintain budgets pertaining to identified projects according to the funder’s requirements
- Review and amend budgets according to changes from funders. Communicate changes to the budget to all relevant stakeholders
- Implement financial control measures on all external projects
- Create cost centres and ledger accounts in the general ledger as required
- Update and maintain data on the finance system to accurately reflect the budget as well as entries in the appropriate cost centres and ledger accounts
- Monitor and review payment requisitions received to ensure compliance with DUT financial policies and budgetary provisions. Address any deviations with relevant stakeholders
- Check funding claims received to ensure compliance with the required policies, standards and requirements
- Process requisitions for goods and services in accordance with DUT’s policy and procedure
- Consolidate and prepare monthly claims received for submission to funders and donors
- Prepare reports for purposes of reporting to various structures as required, in accordance with the reporting schedule
- Prepare financial reports for submission to funders in accordance with the reporting format and timeline requirements to ensure ongoing funding
- Collate relevant information, draft and submit reports to management, research team, project leaders and any other stakeholders as per the agreed timelines
- Update and advise internal stakeholders, such as the research team, on DUT financial and funding-related policies and procedures
- Adhere to agreements between DUT and funders as well as the policies and procedures governing the funding agreement and process in order to maintain credible relations with all funders/donors
- Update and advise internal stakeholders on the availability of funds within their functional areas
- Support and advise researchers
