- Shaft sinking and equipping
- Installation of service infrastructure
- Ancillary excavations
- Shaft operational and logistics management
- Operational co-ordination of labour
- Risk management
- Safety management
- Financial and budget management
- Client relationship management

**Minimum requirements**:

- Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
- Valid First Aid Certificate
- Blasting certificate
- Shift Supervisor Certificate
- Mine Overseer certificate will be advantageous
- Banksman / Onsetter certificate will be advantageous
- Sound levels of English literacy and numeracy
- 3 Year experience in an underground mining environment as a Miner
- Exposure to acting as a Shift Supervisor would be advantageous
