It aims to understand the unique requirements of clients and offers a wide range of simple and affordable financial solutions that cover needs such as funeral insurance, savings for education, life cover and personal accident plans. In terms of the Sanlam Group Governance Policy, SDM is managed by the SA Retail Mass cluster, which is part of the Sanlam Life and Savings cluster within the Sanlam Group. The cluster focusses on retail products, as well as group schemes. Key Responsibilities

Departmental strategy and business planning
Deliver and gain approval for the talent management strategy and business plan for Sanlam Retail Mass. Develop and embed metrics and clear performance measurements across the talent management life cycle.
Work with the Executive to deliver and gain approval for talent management initiatives and projects that will support the strategic and business objectives.
Prepare, propose, manage and deliver the annual talent management budget.
Ensure continuous monitoring of performance against budget and be accountable for budget control for the department. Motivate recommendations/requests for further budget or deviation from budget where appropriate.
Remain up to date with advancements and developments in talent management technology, best practice and legal/statutory requirements across the employee life cycle. Facilitate adoption of best-practices to optimise departmental performance.
Support the organisation’s transformation objectives through appropriate recruitment, talent pipeline and performance management practices, initiatives and programmes.
Proactively monitor, identify and manage risks related to the adoption and governance of talent management policies across Sanlam Retail Mass (recruitment, selection, assessment, performance management, etc.) to minimise reputational damage and financial losses. Key Outputs

Talent management delivery

Recruitment (sourcing, selection and placement)
Drive the conceptualisation, development and embedding of sourcing, selection and placement policies, procedures and frameworks across Sanlam Retail Mass, and provide guidance to the management team regarding related practices and principles to ensure effective implementation and maintenance of the same.
Develop, implement and review unique talent sourcing and placement strategies and techniques to supply business-critical skills to the organisation.
Communicate approved headcount and recruitment budgets to talent sourcing practitioners and facilitate implementation plans per business unit to ensure vacancies of critical roles are filled in a timely manner.
Drive the development of on-boarding programmes to fast-track performance of new recruits.
Agree and set up commercial partnerships with external agencies to deliver on specified / critical talent pool requirements.
Talent pipeline management (talent development and succession planning)
Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and legislative requirements.
Put talent development and succession frameworks, techniques and technologies in place, and guide the planning, review and tracking of talent pools to determine if talent objectives are met.
Provide talent pipeline and succession planning / management support to the business, in line with the talent strategy and framework, to ensure the organisation has a supply of ready-now talent.
Work with Executives to ensure Executive and HOD succession and development are in place
Manage and track specified talent segments through an approved framework, system and process. Highlight areas of improvement and ensure corrective action.

Assume accountability for and lead the annual graduate recruitment, selection, placement and performance plan.
Performance management
Ensure effective execution of performance management processes, principles and practices across Sanlam Retail Mass, and ensure alignment to overall HR policies and procedures.
Ensure consistency, quality and alignment of performance goals, KRAs, metrics, etc. across the Group.
Drive fair performance measurement practices and ensure the safekeeping, confidentiality and analytical processing of results.
Drive calibration of performance scores across Sanlam Retail Mass, and work with the Remuneration Department during increase / bonus periods to ensure alignment, consistency and fairness.
Establish and lead a performance management culture across the Group.
Talent assessments and systems
Accountable for establishing, embedding and managing sound and fair psychometric assessment practices for the organisation (selection, testing, feedback, talent management, succession planning, etc.), in line with best practice and legislation.
