Sanlam Specialised Finance (SanFin) is a business within the Sanlam Investments Group cluster (SIG) with the responsibility to create shared value for Sanlam, its shareholders, policyholders, and the societies within which it operates by managing financial risks; developing products and balance sheet optimisation; pursuing investments and financing opportunities in assets, sectors, markets, organisations, and geographies that enable maximum return within acceptable risk parameters. What will you do?
Employed in the SanFin Finance and Operations Division (FinOps) reporting to Chief Financial Officer and responsible for execution of key management accounting related goals, policies and objectives in support of the internal decision-making structures. This role requires collaboration within the division, SanFin and across SIG and Group businesses to ensure good governance and financial controls on SanFin aspects are upheld. FinOps comprises of Finance (Accounts, Financial Reporting, Management Information), Operations (Middle Office, Transactions Management, Valuations and Treasury Operations), Company Secretarial Services and Office Management. The areas of focus for this role will be across Finance and Operations activities. What will be your key responsibilities?
- Assist to simplify key management accounting information, processes, and controls in support of internal decision-making structures.
- Provide insights and report on management performance against industry standards and peers on a regular basis.
- Improve the financial performance measures that support the business’ direction and thereby contributing to effective decision making.
- Evaluate and analyse income statement volatility and explore options for corrective action.
- Update and develop financial and operational policies, processes and procedures in compliance with business objectives, including internal financial and control matrix as required for Group reporting purposes.
- Provide finance operations support on new type of business, transactions or products in ensuring smooth execution and implementation thereof.
- Coordinate & assist the Chief Financial Officer to devise financial strategic initiatives that support the overall business strategic plans and objectives.
- Assist in formulating cost optimization and innovative ideas that add value to the business.
- Collaborate with the Cluster and Group functions in providing management accounting and operational information and reports required for various governance structures and for regulatory purposes.
- Enhance and standardize financial and operational processes for the business.
- Implement and be involved in all accounting related projects and initiatives within SanFin, SIG cluster and Group.
Qualification and Experience
- CA (SA) or equivalent qualification. - Knowledge of JDE and Murex will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 10 years financial and operations experience in financial services industry (at least 2 years at senior level).
- Financial analysis experience.
- Accounting and IFRS experience.
- Good Excel and power point skills.
- In addition must have:
- Sound understanding of management information;
- The ability to prepare financial and management reports;
- The ability to craft policies and procedures;
- strong technical and operational capability;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationship with stakeholder; and
- Proven management and leadership capability.
Qualification and Experience CA or CMA with 8 to 10 years related experience.
