CAPRISA is an award-winning global research organisation located on the campus of the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine in Durban, South Africa and undertakes research in HIV, TB and Covid at four clinical research sites in KwaZulu-Natal.

CAPRISA’s goal is to undertake globally relevant and locally responsive research that contributes to understanding HIV Vaccines and Pathogenesis, Prevention and Epidemiology, the links between Tuberculosis and AIDS treatment and Covid-19. CAPRISA is a UNAIDS Collaborating Centre for HIV Research and Policy and is recognised as a DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in HIV Prevention and hosts the SAMRC HIV-TB Pathogenesis and Treatment Research Unit.

**Minimum Requirements**
- Master’s degree in Statistics with a PhD an advantage
- Minimum of 5 years of technical biostatistical experience in a clinical research organisation, across Phase I/II/III clinical trials
- 2 years of experience in a leadership role
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in SAS, R or similar software programmes
- Extensive and in-depth understanding of statistics, statistical tools and practices
- Comprehensive knowledge of the clinical trial development process, study design and set up, as well as clinical data management
- Computer literate and experience in working with MS Office packages.
- Proven track record of statistical input on publications (co-author/acknowledgement of contribution)
- Willingness to work under pressure and long hours to meet deadlines

- Provides strategic direction in innovation and development within Department/Support Core
- Development of or improve system(s) to ensure timely and effective provision of high-quality statistical services.
- Manages and guides team of statisticians including training of junior statisticians, research clinicians, fellows and scientists
- Participates in study design (sample size calculations and power calculations) and protocol development of new research studies/projects
- Develop and implement statistical analyses plans (SAP)
- Manages statistical reporting requirements for allocated studies including data and safety monitoring board (DSMB) reports
- Liaises with Data Management regarding accurate source of statistical output from CRF data.
- Provide statistical analyses for manuscripts, contribute to manuscript writing and also develop and undertake own scientific research
