Maximise capacity utilisatin

Ensure your vehicle is cleared for Every Departure and Return by confirming that:
Health & Safety Essentials are in place

Yu are compliant (i.e. present, punctual, presentable & trained)

Cmplete the of the attendance register accurately.

In cnjunction with the Mechanical Supervisor and Logistics Supervisor ensure all Vehicle Standards are met: Safety, Roadworthiness, Compliance & Cleanliness

Specified Pick-ups & Drp-Off’s are confirmed

Dcumentary Proof is 100% complete & accurate and strict departure times are met

All Mining Regulatins & transportation have been complied with

Loading and unloading trucks.

Ensure that the truck you drive is kept in good condition and that maintenance work is kept up to date. Inspection of truck and recording any issues to be done daily.

Should there be any mechanical issues on trip report to Mechanical Supervisor immediately.

Be skilled at plotting the best routes making use of GPS system for all journeys so destination can be reached timeously; taking into consideration that large trucks may have to take detours if there are roads that cannot accommodate size vehicle.

Administrative duties such as keeping truck logs and obtaining customer signature; liaising with supervisors via radio or telephone while doing deliveries

Know and follow safety regulations and make sure that the products being transported are secure.

Daily vehicle inspections are important to maintain safety standards and prevent damage to people or products.

Adhere to speed limits at all times and keep a safe following distance while driving.

Ensure that the truck is not overloaded at any point in time and that no passengers are being carried in the truck.

It’s the driver’s responsibility to keep his own truck clean and washed at all times.

Far distance trips are also part of the driver’s job. The driver is expected to leave at any hour, to be on time for the delivery. This may include an entire weekend away from their families.

As driver you needs to be awake and alert for all your trips. When tired, you are expected stop in a secure location such as a petrol station to have a few hours of sleep before driving again.

It is your responsibility to report road incidents to the dispatcher as they occur and in the case of an accident follow relevant accident reporting procedure.

Keep an activities log and log hours.

Maintain a positive attitude with customers.

Keep driver license up to date.

Matric

At least 3 years’ experience in pulling side tipper/tautliner/flat deck trailers

Microsoft Word (Basic) - tables, formatting, templates, etc.

Microsoft Excel (Basic) - graphs, charts, data sorting, etc.

Microsoft Outlook (Basic) - calendars, meeting invitations

Strong digital literacy skills e.g. cloud storage, GPS navigation, etc.

Code 14 Driver’s license with a PdP

Clean driving record and must pass a drug and alcohol test.

Strong operational knowledge of transportation, including statutory and regulatory provisions on road and freight transportation, vehicle constraints (i.e. payloads, maximum loads, etc.)

Good knowledge of maps, routes and major transport corridors across South Africa

Good written and verbal communication skills in English

Spoken fluency in at least one indigenous African language (e.g. seSotho/ sePedi/ seTswana/ isiXhosa/ isiZulu, etc.)
