-To provide managerial leadership and strategic direction to the International Engagements Division and ensure the provision of value - added international engagement coordination and inputs for the South African Reserve Bank (the Bank). -Detailed Description Provide input into the departmental strategy and policy aligned to the SARB strategy and communicate and clarify the vision and strategic goals of the department to the team members. - Formulate the strategy and procedures and provide input into policy for the International Engagements Division in support of the departmental strategy. - Develop and implement the divisional operational plan to ensure achievement of strategic and operational objectives - Ensure compliance to policy, procedures and audit findings to mitigate risk in the division. - Create a performance culture in the division, define performance expectations and conduct effective performance management of direct reports. - Prioritise work, manage resource utilisation, quality of deliverables and control costs ensuring alignment with related functions and the organisational value chain. - Oversee and authorise the provision of management information for the purpose of decision making. - Drive alignment and communication of a common house view on international macroeconomic and financial issues within the Department, across the Bank, across stakeholders and in related fora. - Oversee the coordination of the SARB line department's engagements in international fora and ensure alignment with the common house view of the SARB. - Monitor and analyse global macroeconomic and financial regulatory developments and trends across international fora, understand the implications thereof and develop policy positions and strategies to influence the international economic agenda to the benefit of South Africa and the continent. - Oversee the collection and analysis of research relating to international macroeconomic and financial issues across international fora to enable the execution of the Bank's strategic objectives. - Represent the Bank and participate in international meetings and fora to develop and manage international cooperation and partnerships on behalf of the Bank (including diplomatic relations) and ensure that South Africa’s international engagement objectives are being met. - Provide diplomatic advice/guidance to principals and other stakeholders to further the agenda of the Bank. - Oversee the preparation of research papers, policy briefs, briefing notes, speaker notes, pre - and post-meeting memos and presentations on the work of the division. - Oversee the management of special projects related to the work of the division. - Liaise with internal and external stakeholders. Job Requirements a minimum of a Master’s degree in Economics OR equivalent combination of education and job-related experience; - a minimum of 10-12 years’ experience in the Economics/Finance environment, with at least 5 years in a management role; and - job-related knowledge of general management, financial policy and regulation, international financial institutions, economics, the balance-sheet structure of the Bank, Research and analysis, policy development, central banking, relevant legislation and report writing.
