The Two Oceans Aquarium is looking for a communications officer to join its Marketing team. The position focuses on raising the profile of the Aquarium and its Foundation through effective and innovative internal and external communications as well as through sound and trusted relationships with relevant media representatives and channels.
The Aquarium is looking for someone who has exceptional writing skills, has a keen interest in the environment - specifically the ocean, and is eager to learn and contribute to the success of one of Cape Town’s top tourist attractions.
Passion, creativity, curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle broad and diverse sets of business and marketing objectives, are essential.

**Essential requirements are**:
Degree/diploma in communications or journalism (minimum)
Three years’ experience in communications with exposure to traditional media, online, and interpretive signage in conservation, environmental and visitor attraction environments
Experience in strategy, communications, content development and proofreading, writing, public speaking, report writing, presentation skills, MS Office
Ability to meet deadlines, collaborate within a team and engage in creative brainstorms
Exceptional verbal and written communication
Fluent in English and Afrikaans
Exposure to photography and videography an advantage
Knowledge of design processes an advantage
A working knowledge of sustainability, branding, social media, website management, negotiation, event coordination, database management will be advantageous
Previous work experience within the conservation and/or ocean environment will be advantageous
A degree or diploma in marine sciences will be advantageous
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
Developing and implementing the communications strategy and plan for the Two Oceans Aquarium and its Foundation
Supporting the implementation of the marketing strategy
Liaising with, and building solid relationships with key media and journalists
Increasing the value of media space for the Aquarium and its Foundation
Contributing to the website and social media content
Writing copy for marketing, advertising, and publications
Acting as media spokesperson for the Aquarium and its foundation
Acting as media liaison between media and the Aquarium and Foundation staff
Handling crisis communication
Communications around special projects and campaigns

**Reporting to**: conservation and sustainability manager
