Established in 1949, HGM continues to be a leading manufacturer and supplier of FOOD PROCESSING machinery, worldwide. It is a diversified industrial services and manufacturing company, comprising of various operating divisions primarily in the food and beverage sector.
We are looking to hire an energetic & dynamic person with some management experience who has strong interpersonal skills as the operations manager for our plastic’s business. There is opportunity for the person to grow into a position that will eventually oversee our technicians based around the globe as well as the support services based at head office in Paarl.
HG Molenaar develops specialised equipment that fills, seals & packs plastic cups / tubs, that is leased to customers globally. It is the job of the operations manager to ensure our lease obligations are met. This is achieved by ensuring the on-site technicians are properly supported and performing their maintenance, support and reporting duties. This requires maintaining good relationships with customers and understanding their production requirements to ensure that the resources are managed appropriately.
The majority of the customers and staff are overseas based, namely, North & Central America, Europe, Asia, Australia & Southern Africa.
In addition to the on-site technical staff, the operations manager must also manage a team of support staff based at head office in Paarl. The support services in Paarl ensure all spare parts are manufactured & shipped to our on-site staff on time, as well as perform any laboratory testing of new packaging materials prior to on-site production.
The operations manager must work closely with the engineering department and manage design improvement changes and the implementation thereof on the sites.
- Learn the technical details of the equipment to a fine level of detail necessary to support the technical staff. This includes all mechanical, electrical & control systems of the equipment and this will require substantial travel locally and internationally initially.
- Learn all processes required of the support staff at head office, which includes the manufacturing and shipping processes as well as laboratory testing processes.
- Travel to all various sites and develop relationships with our on-site technical staff as well as the customers’ staff.
- Understand all operations requirements and tools necessary to take over the management of the support staff in the different local and international regions.
An overview of the role and key job requirements:
- A BEng or BSC Engineering Degree, preferably in Mechatronics, Mechanical & Electrical knowledge is required.
- +-5 years management / leadership experience
- A high level of spoken and written English is essential.
- A good understanding of both machine mechanics & electronic control systems
- Strong leadership qualities, with the ability to motivate, lead and grow his/her team, with 80% of the staff not based in the same country, this is of the utmost importance
- Ensuring all lease equipment is correctly maintained by constantly managing on-site resources and support staff
- Ensure all lease equipment is calibrated and audited annually.
- Customer facing personality with the ability to maintain good customer relations
- The operations manager is responsible for managing the budget for the technical support of all lease lines within their portfolio.
