Senior Database Administrator

In terms of size and scale, we’re 200 employees, running at £50m turnover, and aiming to double that over the next 12-24 months.

**About the Role**

**Responsibilities**
- Set up and configure database servers, ensuring they are optimized for performance.
- Design and implement database schemas, tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures.
- Assisting in the development of a comprehensive data strategy and providing expert advice to directors on best practices, ensuring data initiatives align with business objectives and industry standards.
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning techniques to improve query execution and system responsiveness.
- Ensure that backup procedures are tested regularly and can be restored effectively during disaster recovery scenarios.
- Monitor and manage database storage, ensuring efficient use of disk space.
- Staying up to date with the latest technologies
- Creating and maintaining data pipelines to integrate new data sources, utilizing APIs or custom connectors to support the loading of data into SQL Database.

**Qualifications**

3-5 years of hands-on experience with major DBMS platforms such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB. A proven track record of demonstrating strong analytical thinking, with the ability to understand and navigate complex business challenges and industry-specific terminology. Experience in designing and developing database schemas, including normalization, creating views, stored procedures, triggers, and writing complex SQL queries. Familiarity with SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) and Visual Studio for SSAS development, as well as experience in integrating SSAS with other components of the Microsoft BI stack, such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). Experience managing technical relationships with 3rd party suppliers. Ensuring data accuracy and consistency by thoroughly understanding data expectations and meticulously checking for validity. Experience with Python (Or some other coding language) to support the creation of data pipelines and data extraction as part of the ETL/ELT process.

**Required Skills**:

- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
- Proficiency in major DBMS platforms like SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL, including complex query writing, stored procedures, triggers, and views.
- Strong knowledge of backup strategies, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery planning.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, especially when it comes to data integrity and validation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse complex data-related issues.

Pay: R40 000,00 - R55 000,00 per month

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Cape Town, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)
