Control Room Operator

**Requirements**:

- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or certification in process technology, automation, or a related field is a plus.
- 2-5 years of experience in a control room or process operator role, preferably in mining, mineral processing, or similar industrial environments.
- Familiarity with gold processing flow (milling, thickening, CIL, elution, electrowinning, and tailings) or comparable continuous production processes.
- Proficiency in using DCS, SCADA, or PLC-based control systems to monitor and adjust process parameters.
- Basic knowledge of process instrumentation (e.g., flow meters, pressure transmitters, control valves).
- RSA Citizen
- Valid License and own vehicle
- Clear criminal record and ability to pass client site medical examinations.

**Duties**:

- Operate and monitor plant equipment (milling, thickening, CIL, elution, electrowinning, and tailings) via control systems to ensure stable and efficient operations.
- Adjust process parameters (e.g., flow rates, reagent dosing, temperature, pressure) to maintain optimal production targets and gold recovery rates.
- Respond promptly to alarms and abnormal operating conditions, troubleshooting in coordination with field operators and maintenance personnel.
- Continuously analyse trends in plant data—such as throughput, reagent consumption, and recovery metrics—to identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with metallurgists, engineers, and shift supervisors to implement process adjustments or upgrades.
- Document and communicate operational insights that could lead to enhanced productivity or cost savings.
- Follow established procedures in the event of plant upsets, equipment failures, or safety incidents, coordinating closely with emergency response teams when required.
- Consistently adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations, reporting any unsafe conditions to the shift supervisor or safety department.
- Participate in safety drills, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at minimizing risk and fostering a proactive safety culture.
- Maintain accurate, real-time logs of process variables and equipment performance.
- Generate shift reports summarizing production outputs, downtime events, alarms, and other relevant operational data.
- Provide clear communication during shift handovers to ensure seamless continuity between incoming and outgoing control room operators.
- Coordinate with field operators, maintenance crews, and other departments (e.g., maintenance, metallurgy, safety) to address process deviations or equipment malfunctions.
- Communicate effectively with the shift supervisor regarding production status, pending tasks, and any critical issues requiring immediate attention.
- Relay accurate information during regular team meetings, ensuring alignment on production goals and ongoing projects.
- Identify potential hardware or software issues within control systems, alerting the IT or engineering teams to initiate repairs or upgrades.
- Conduct routine checks to verify functionality of alarms, interlocks, and other critical control elements.
- Support calibration and testing of instrumentation as requested by instrumentation technicians or engineers.
- Perform other duties as required by the business, even if not specifically listed in the job description.
