Purpose of the Position:
- Is the owner of the Company payments domain architecture capability. The payments architect is responsible for the design, development, delivery and ongoing maintenance of an enterprise payments architecture and related execution roadmap, assuring its continued alignment to the overarching objectives of the Company business, IT and enterprise architecture requirements.
- Qualifications
- BSc Computer Science or BComm Information Systems / Informatics or a similarly relevant Information Technology degree from a recognized university
- Relevant payments software and platform certifications
- Architecture practice and modelling-related certifications e.g., TOGAF, Bredemeyer, Zachmann, UML, eTOM, SOA.
- Architecture tooling certifications experience e.g., Sparx, Casewise, ARIS, iServer.
- Supporting technology or business domain certifications
Experience
- 8+ years' experience as an architecture practitioner
- 5+ years' experience in payments-specific architecture and solution design
- 5+ years' experience in leading/managing architecture and/or payments implementation teams
- 3+ years' experience in implementing large, mid-size and small payments solutions/projects
- Deep domain knowledge of payments and cloud systems/platforms implementations, and hands-on experience working on related technologies with customers in those markets
- Understanding of emerging payment trends and partner ecosystems e.g. Payment Hubs, Micro payments, Open API payment facilities, Cashless transacting, NFC and VAS retail payments other
- Experience with different payments platforms and providers such as M-Pesa, MTN, Pagatech IBM, PAYU, PayGate, Worlonline or other
- Detailed experience and successful track record in establishing payments capabilities, defining and driving the adoption of payments architectures e.g. Instruction Management, Transaction Handling Pre-Processing, Clearing Settlements, Cross-Border payment, Transaction Switching, Payment Authorizations, Payment Scheduling, Low Care/High Care Payment Processing, Fraud Risk Management, Payment Reconciliation Balancing, Mandates Compliance, Currency Exchange, Access Mechanisms (e.g. Card)
- Business process optimization skills related to payments-specific processes and the value chain, including Payment Origination, Payment Preparation, Payment Processing, Clearing Settlements, Reporting, Billing and Reconciliation
- Strong understanding of software design and DevOps concepts

- Owner, custodian and champion of the Company payments capability, ensuring cross-group alignment with other functional areas and business functions, as well as to enterprise architecture
- Expert in the payment's domain (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Servicing, Retention)
- Develops a baseline of the existing payments system portfolio, with responsibility to manage the system lifecycle thereof in accordance with the payments roadmap
- Define, develop and align the medium-to-long-term strategy and target architecture (Blueprint) for the enterprise payments capability, with all relevant business and IT stakeholders
- Definition of the Company payments architecture frameworks, reference models, standards, policies and practices
- Provides ongoing review of payments environment, recommending improvements based on latest trends, technologies, and business operating environment
- Investigates payments systems that might benefit Company, providing payments insights into the development of business cases, whilst playing a lead role in the system evaluation and selection process for approved investments
- Drives the payments system evaluation, selection and procurement process
- Consistently aligns enterprise stakeholders regarding cross-department and group-related payments projects, dependencies, overlaps and opportunities
- Provides enterprise-wide assurance over the integrity and appropriateness of payments solution designs, using Company payments standards
- Definition and review of CRM-specific value realisation goals for the CRM environment
- Represents the payments capability in architecture and design forum(s) as a key decision-making stakeholder
