Unique Personnel Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer to join our team. We offer a competitive salary of R1,200,000 per annum, depending on experience.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing electrical systems for industrial plants, including LV and MV systems engineering, design of electrical systems, and specification of switchgear and motor protection equipment. They will also ensure design compliance with the South African Grid Code and manage electrical interfaces with other disciplines.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing LV and MV systems, including conceptual and detail design, and development of electrical systems and networks
  • Specifying and executing electrical systems for industrial plants
  • Designing LV & MV Motor Control Centres and LV & MV industrial plant reticulation systems
  • Designing DC plant and battery systems, renewable energy systems, and protection systems
  • Specifying Electrical Switchgear and Motor Protection Equipment
  • Designing cable networks and distribution systems, lighting, and small power designs
  • Ensuring design compliance with the South African Grid Code
  • Managing electrical interfaces with other disciplines

In addition, the successful candidate will participate in and manage procurement and installation contracts and documentation, including tender evaluation. They will assist during the fabrication phase of all projects and compile project cost estimations, including Bill of Quantities (BOQs). They will also assist with testing and commissioning of electrical systems and mentor junior personnel.

We require a BSc (Eng) or B Eng degree in Electrical Engineering, registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer, and at least 5 years of relevant multi-disciplinary project design experience, especially in the Power Generation Industry. Experience designing PV Systems is desirable.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A good understanding of OHS Act and Regulations, Environmental Legislation, SANS & IEC codes, Safety Management Standards, and ISO 9001
  • Working knowledge of the South African Grid Code
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with ETAP or DigSilent
  • Excellent communication and technical report writing skills
  • Ability to operate under pressure in a team environment
  • Good planning, organizing, administration, and time management skills
  • Good people skills, assertiveness, and a pro-active disposition
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including traveling to project sites

Please note that this role requires regular travel to project sites, so candidates must be willing and able to do so.
