Distinguished Geologist/Operator

At The Legends Agency, we are seeking an exceptional individual to fill the role of Distinguished Geologist/Operator. This position offers a unique opportunity for skilled professionals to join our team in the heart of South Africa.

The estimated salary for this role is R550,000 - R700,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

This exciting opportunity involves working in trackless underground mining, where you will be responsible for the safe and efficient blasting and extraction of minerals. You will work closely with our experienced team, collaborating to achieve production targets while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Blasting Operations:
  • Conduct thorough pre-blasting inspections to ensure the blast area is safe and compliant with regulations.
  • Prepare and charge blast holes according to mine design specifications and safety procedures.
  • Initiate blasts in line with schedules, minimizing disruption to the environment and surrounding operations.
• Trackless Mining Operations:
  • Operate and maintain trackless mobile machinery as required for mining operations.
  • Perform routine safety checks on equipment and report any issues or malfunctions.
• Safety Compliance:
  • Acknowledge and adhere to safety regulations set out by the Mine Health and Safety Act.
  • Follow protocols for collision avoidance systems on trackless machines to prevent accidents involving machinery and personnel.
• Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the mining team, engineers, and supervisors to ensure the safe execution of daily operations.
  • Provide support in training and mentoring junior staff on blasting and equipment operation.

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess the following:

• Blasting Ticket: A valid Blasting Certificate for Scheduled Mines in South Africa.
• Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in trackless underground mining.
• Technical Skills:
  • Knowledge of operating trackless mobile machinery in underground environments.
  • Proficient in blast hole preparation, explosive handling, and initiation.
• Safety Compliance:
  • Thorough understanding of mine safety protocols, especially regarding collision avoidance and proximity detection systems.
• Additional Skills:
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments and meet production deadlines.
